Pacers Crunchtime?

Post#1 » by BobCatsFoLife » Thu Dec 17, 2009 1:26 pm

Last night with 1.4 seconds left in the game we were down by 3 points. On the floor we had, Jackson, DJ, Wallace, Murray, and Diaw. My questions to the BobCat nation is, do you think that this is an ideal 3 point lineup, and if not, what would it be? Also, who would you want to take the shot?

I would have replaced Wallace with Felton and let DJ take the shot. I swear during the timeout I was hoping that LB would draw the play up for DJ. For two reasons. One he had just hit one and two, hopefully it would boost his confidence.

DJ - Felts - Flip - Jax - Diaw

With Diaw inboudning the ball and the play designed for DJ to take the shot.

only problem with giving dj the ball with 1.4, he would have to taken a tightly contested 3pt shot, tough for him to do at his size. i would have found a way to get it to jax, at 6'8" he could have gotten a shot off over most defenders up in his grill and he would not have been scared to shoot like diaw.

Thanks Fats. I didn't realize that Felton had foulded out. You have a good point about the size of Jax. And Diaw straight punked out by not shooting the ball at the last second. It pissed me off. If he had have jumped straight up to shoot he might have even gotten fouled. I still would have wanted DJ to shoot it regardless.

That was the plan but Flip couldn't get it to him.

I wouldn't have called it for DJ anyway. As shaky as his confidence has been, given the couple of minutes in between the time out and taking the shot he'd have broken out in hives. Besides, hitting 2 out of 8 (or 2 of 5 from 3 uncontested) doesn't really say "I'm back", esp. when you know it's going to be difficult getting the shot off.

I wonder if others are joining in my disregard for Diaw on this team? Don't hate the guy, but he is such a non-factor for us now it's ridiculous.

Either this team needs to make the deal necessary to get the right player at the 4, or be willing to suffer the consequences. Frankly, I can live with the consequences this season as long as we get our lottery pick in this draft. The WORST thing would be to play mediocre ball, get caught in a situation of both missing the playoffs AND our draft pick!!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I didn't realize Felton was fouled out either. I had to switch to the Pacers feed because the stupid DirecTV thing cut off the Bobcats one with 1:35 left.

I do not want DJ shooting the shot in that scenario, but I also want someone better than Flip inbounding the ball. We NEVER have a good play in those situations. NEVER. Honestly, I'd want Felton or Jackson taking the shot in that case. Anyone else would crap their pants and Wallace has no jumper. Diaw proved he can't be the guy when he caught it and had to go up. It's a shame we didn't even get the damn shot off. I'm OK if we miss it, but if it's a turnover or just no attempt, that blows. Felton or Jackson would shoot it and give us a chance. Flip had Jackson in the corner but looked away right before he got there.

I would have tried to run a screen for D.J. with the hope of getting him a good look from 26 feet or so. Jax would have been my second option.

I agree with Slam about having Diaw pass it in. Maybe I'da put Chandler in to set a pick.

Why would you put in Chandler to set a pick?? I think I'd put MONEY on the fact he'd set a moving screen/illegal screen and get called for the offensive foul. I haven't done any research at all, but I'd LOVE to know the % of his fouls that are offensive!!!! It's HAS to be at least 33% of his fouls ..maybe even higher.

We traded for Jax to get a proven scorer and a go-to guy....get him the ball.

82games shows his TO breakdown as such:

Offensive Fouls: 21
Bad Passes: 11
Handling TOs: 8
Other TOs: 7

Appreciate the info Walt...so using that....

his fouls/gm is 3.32 * 22gms = 73.04 fouls

21 offensive fouls / 73 fouls = .2875 or ~ 29%

So I was close with 33% :)...moral of the story..DON'T LET HIM SET THE SCREEN AT THE END OF THE GAME!!! haha...

Thanks again Walt

Unless things have changed, 82games lags behind a little bit in the updating of statistics, so it's possible his o fouls are a higher percentage than 29%! :D

EO50 was also horrible at setting screens and seemed to be called for at least one a game last season.

i used to just think mek was always late on the picks... now chandler does it and ive seen nazr do it too.

makes me think its not the bigs, but either the guards or the coaching/system/play

maybe i owe mek an apology for the times i got pissed at his bad screens. i'll send him a xmas card, with a hot guy w/ abs wearing a santa hat on the front. he'll like that.

What if the shot was uncontested, who would you have wanted to shoot the shot?

uncontested? DJ for sure. i dont care if he is 0-20 in the game. he's still our best shooter by a mile.
