In my first thread here I was concerned that the Nets will be the Clippers of the east for the next years (and earning a lot of critcism). When I had written it, I wasn't even expecting a season like this. What's really concerning me is that our good core of veteran players like Harris, Lee and Yi (and to some extent also the youngsters CDR, Williams, Lopez) now have that historical stamp on them.
Do you think they can ever recover from this and develop -somehow- a winner mentality again?
With the first overall pick, is there anybody in the upcoming draft who may be a franchise player for us?
Why is Josh Boone playing? He always has the best +/- stats of the starters, but what does he give to this team? His stats are pretty weak.

Re: Winner spirit
Lee is hardly a veteran.
1) I don't see why not. With a few free agents coming in this summer, a winning mentality will be instilled in them as long as the front office brings in the right people.
2) John Wall could very well be a franchise player.
3) Who else do you want to play? Trenton Hassle at the four? There is no one else taller than 6'9 other than Sean Williams and Eduardo Najera. Once Yi/Hayes returns, the team can move CDR to the sixth man spot, which will give some scoring off the bench and improve the team overall.

1. They can develop a winner's mentality but we fans have to be patient... With more than half of the roster going to be gone by this time next season and only one bad contract (Eduardo Najera's) holding the team down, rest assured that massive changes are on the way.
2. John Wall is a franchise player he's a more aggressive Derrick Rose IMO. Other than that... There are quite a few quality players who could significantly help a team in the future (Favors, Aldrich, maybe Monroe), they all have some question marks but would still be a step forward from what the Nets have right now...
3. Yi's injury is why Boone is playing. Personally I don't have a problem with playing Boone if this team would slow things down and try to grind things out that style of play would benefit him much more than whatever it is the team is trying to run right now...
I do see where you're coming from though Trooper, if the Nets happen to strike out on all the tier 1 free agents and miss out on the #1 pick things the Nets probably will enter a short 1-2 period of absolutely sucking... Luckily even if that scenario did play out the move to Brooklyn, which seems closer than ever, would put a short end to that dark time in Nets history (IMO)...

Re: Winner spirit
We can easily get out of this funk next year by winning some games. I would like to see us be patient one more year. The top guys seem to be out of the question so I don't want to over pay for 2nd teir guys to put us into mediocrity. I think we're gonna need to fight though another season like this next year. Hopefully nab Wall, get another big with the Dallas pick and go into next year with Wall, Harris, Lee, T.Will, CDR, Yi, Dallas pick, Lopez, and Dooling. I want to nab D. Lee from the Knicks if we could for like 9 mill per and go with that team. Also bring back Boone and Hayes for 1 year. Yeah they're probably still gonna be pretty bad but next year we'll be in much better position to nab a big time free agent (Melo) with that squad and Brooklyn looming, as well as another lottery pick.
I wouldn't mind getting back into this draft (moving up that is) with Harris (if we get Wall)/Lee/T.Will/Dallas 1st. or any combination to nab someone like Turner, Henry, Favors

Re: Winner spirit
Who would you compare Wall to? Is he a true franchise player?
Actually I am most concerned about D. Harris. He is the leader of this team and if you lead a team 2 or 3 seasons into a losing record (one of them historical) I think this guy will never hit a game winning shot in an important playoff game any more. It is really a shame, but probably it would be best for him and the Nets to trade him next season to get a fresh new PG and he can re-develope and play a less important rule in a championship team (or playoff team).
I saw some dunks of Yi in on of the posting heres. Is he playing more aggressive now?
Sorry to ask but right now I dont pay for NBA TV considering my fav team is so weak..

There is some concern with Devin Harris' play this year, but he is starting to come out of it, little by little...Even for maybe the team's best player, this year has been a difficult transition adjusting to the new roster/starting lineup as well as dealing with his own injuries (throw in the drama and anyone's play can be affected)...Devin is going nowhere soon, unless we get something of comparable talent immediately in return...
I really do believe the contigent here who are going into this Devin Harris panic mode are truly overreacting...
