The Mariners are looking to trade pitcher Brandon Morrow for a hitter, sources told FOX Sports.

Having lost Nick Johnson to the Yankees, Seattle needs a bat at designated hitter or third base.

Why would they need a 3B? Isn't that where Chone is supposed to play? Regardless, say they do want Overbay for 1B, you aren't getting Morrow for him. Some random 25 year-old AA guy maybe. That being said I'll take it no problem.

I think they're planning on moving Figgins to LF. You're probably right about the deal, but I think it might be possible to get something done. Overbay & Accardo maybe? Accardo has had slightly better numbers over his career.

Overbay + Downs + Accardo for Morrow. We can eat most of Overbay's salary.

This might be conceivable depending on whether any of SEA's interest in Overbay was true. I don't get why they want to deal Morrow in the first place though. I remember there being a disagreement about relief/starting, but I can't remember which way was which. I'm assuming he wants to start and they want him in relief, so maybe filling 3 holes for one guy they can't appease would make sense. If they're turly in "let's not have a Halladay situation with King Felix mode" they're unlikely to get 3 guys who can make the 25 man for Morrow anywhere else. I'm sure they could get a more attractive package from the Jays perspective somewhere else (meaning if they want prospects for Morrow), but if they are really trying to go all out to beat out the Angels this year, they might not find a more suitable offer. Still I would've thought a guy as highly touted as Morrow would still have a little bit more value.

That's way to much to give up from our end isn't it? Morrow has a live arm but he still can't throw strikes.

Why is it too much? Do Overbay or Downs have any real value other than what they can bring back in a trade? They won't be here in a year and we don't need them this year so their only value is what they bring back for the future. I guess you can make an argument Downs might fetch a better prospect than Morrow, but i doubt it. Overbay has negative value to me, and if you eat a huge chunk of his deal he's still very marginal value (pretty hard to find poorer starting 1B's than him. Easily in the bottom 3rd of starters in any given year IMO). Accardo is the only piece I can see the debate over, and whether he's got a decent arm or not, if there's still just a slim chance Morrow reaches some of his potential, I'd take that deal and cross my fingers, but I'm admittedly more interested in could be's at this point for the Jays rather than is or likely to be, so a guy like Morrow has a certain mystique I can hold out for. xD

Downs is very likely to be a Type A free agent.

I wouldn't trade Overbay+Downs+Accardo for Morrow. Way too much given up for a guy who has yet to live up to the hype.

Agreed; Downs should fetch a pretty penny, and if not he'll return a nice haul of picks (same goes for Frasor). Worst-case scenario -- assuming that both stay healthy and have good seasons -- we end up with seven top-100 picks next year, as well.
