Phil Jackson - Unsure if Lakers will pay him

Jackson said he will not decide on his future until June or July, and he did acknowledge that repeating as champions would improve his prospects of staying.

"Oh sure, it really does. But it's not a definite that I would continue even if we would be," Jackson said. "If things didn't go well and we didn't win, that would obviously be something that would be, you know, you think maybe it's time for someone else to look at this job and carry this team forward from there.

"That's possibly not going to happen that way, but just winning it outright doesn't mean it's a natural to come back and coach this team. I just don't see that as a natural thing. A lot of it has to do with the direction the league is going, the direction the ownership wants to go in. People are cutting costs all around the league, and coaches are obviously going to take a cut too, so they may not even want to hire me. They may want to save some money."

Jackson was asked if he would he accept a pay cut.

"Why would you?" he replied, ending his pregame interview.

I dont think he is worth $12 million a year. Since he is dating Jeannie, he will get what he wants.

Lakers can find a cheaper coach and still win championship with this core.

I think Phil will have to take a small pay cut but I think to make up for that Lakers will offer Phil a piece in the ownership kind of like Magic.

Yeah, 3 years, 8 million per should be an excellent contract.

Phil Jackson deserves it. His knowledge of the game, his ability to interact with players and to push their buttons. To handle those egos. To transform a HS arrogant 18 year old kid into the next MJ.

Phil Jackson is easily a HOF Coach. And just as with MJ/Bird, etc. We're going to miss Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Gregg Popovich and Jerry Sloan. Those 4 are the standards for coaching.

Most def.........I think people read way too deep into Phil's words sometime. All Phil is doing is saying in code is, "For all you guys who have gotten fat deals some what close to me better realize those days are over."

Lakers will pay Phil as much money as he wants to coach the team and Phil knows this. Kobe, much like Michael, will insist on playing for Phil and nobody else.

Phil Jackson is an integral part of this team, and THE most important piece to our championship possibilitues outside of Kobe and Gasol. With as much talent as the Lakers have, Phil is what seperates LAL from Boston. (PJ vs Doc Rivers? Are you kidding me.)

I believe that Phil is being facietious. He knows, as we all do, that money has absolutely nothing to do with his decision whether to come back or not. It's based purely on his health. Sometimes I think Phil just says this kind of stuff to get people gossiping, and to keep his players focused on the moment.

They will pay Phil as long as he wants to coach. There's no way Buss pays Drew, LO, Pau, and Kobe...then low balls PJ.

He will get paid. Buss and AEG have lots and lots of money. Plus the Lakers very very profitable even in this economy. 2 more years Phil at least.

idiocy if we didnt.

the dude flat out has it figured out.

we were at home against utah, and it was gettin ugly. utah had a gameplan in and we were not executing our offense.

3rd quarter or so he calls a timeout. this is where you pay attention, because we all know he doesnt call very many of those.

he tells the guys what utah is doin, what we need to do, and makes a small adjustment.

after that timeout . . . we proceed to blow them out of the game.

he is keenly in tuned with his scheme, the game and this team. it is unfathomable not bringing him back, unless he absolutely is done with the game.
