What's up with Boris Diaw?

I was for that trade from the outset. An overpaid zero (Diop) plus an effective zero (Diaw) are worse than an overpaid contributor (Brand).

Given Diop never plays consider what the trade would be like if Diaw had a contract that was both his and Diops. Is anyone here ready to say that would be a better contract than Brands?

Yes, I would welcome Brand here. If we are truly going to make a run with the players we have, might as well load up a PF that can do things for a few more seasons. We'll be bloated on salary between Brand, Jax and Wallace, but Chandler comes off after next season. Or we can stick with what we've got, waste the productivity of Jax and Crash, and stay mediocre. Or we can blow it all up, but that's much harder to do now with Jax on board.

What would you have given up to get Zach Randolph? What an impact he would have been on this team versus Diaw? Granted, everyone remembered Diaw's good contributions last year, when he seemed motivated. Now? Boris is just lost. I wish he'd get it going just to improve his value in a trade.

Hi everyone,

As i'm new on the board, i'll just introduce myself first. I'm French, and i've never really enjoyed b-ball until some french players (Tony Parker, '05-06 Diaw, Pietrus and some others after them) happened to do something in NBA; we're more soccer (football) fans here.

I've been following Boris since his fantastic '05-06 season, and seen his ups and downs. I'm not sure what to expect from him. I hope he proves me wrong, but he simply lacks passion for the game. Sometimes i wonder if he's not playing b-ball only to please his mom, who was a great player in the french NT back in the days. He has great skills but seems to have no fire in him.

I've believed in him in the worst moments (Amar'e's return in Phoenix) even when he had blank stats; but now i'm done with boris. Waking up every morning checkinh on the computer :
- di his team win? Yes ? Great!
- did he contribute? no, as usual : played around 30 min, 2 or 3 points on a good night, on 1/7 FG shooting, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, whatever.
I've seen that scenario too many times when he was in phoenix, and while i had some hope last year, this season since Jax came into town reminds me of these days in Arizona (or in Atlanta). I can't understand it because in Charlotte, the coach keeps him involved and he's still a starter (lucky there's no backup pf).

As i hope he 'Cats make the playoffs because i like the team (disappointing sometimes, but never-know-what happens with them), Boris, move your a**, or get traded.

I think Boris letting Gerald get all the rebounds has taken him out of the game a little bit and of course Jackson has been dominating the ball on offense. I think if we use him more as a facilitator like the last 2 games we could bring more ball movement to the offense and not be as much of Jackson or Wallace doing their thing 1 on 1. Wallace and Jackson have been the cause of our huge turnover rise and if we bring back the ball movement from last year we will be much less predictable and be able to throw a lot more things at them on offense.

Anyway, Diaw is slowly becoming the new dough boy in Charlotte. I'm not sure why he looks so unmotivated, but when LB said he wished Emeka liked basketball as much as yoga... I think he needs to ask similar questions about Diaw. You know the Knicks would take him. Should we make a move for Lee?

Who is "you?" I certainly don't know they would take him, especially not for Lee. Not only is Lee a much better player, he also has only 1 year left on his contract. And if you've been following the NBA for the past year, then you would know the Knicks are not taking on any long term contracts during this season.

With the french NT it happens that boris shows some passion, when he starts to make some good plays, it seems to motivate him. But most of the time, i'd say he seems very careless. Maybe it's just the way he looks... He's been in shape, but it's true he's fat-prone.

During the last euro championship, Boris was supposed to be one of the leaders of the team and except one or two games, he didnt really show up. Parker and... Batum (Portland) With his pass-first and others-first mentality, i think he'll never be a leader. With him it's always : "my teammates can do it better than me, so i'd rather they do it" for rebounding, shooting.
So unless you play with team-minded only players, you cannot success. I don't get to watch the game often, but i think players like Jax or Crash must take most of his plays...

He needs to realize (too late?) you have to "impose your will" as you say, to succeed.

As I mentioned in another thread Jackson could fill Diaw's role as the Pf, he is the same size and averages more rebounds. Chandler is also of the same size and is one of those multi purpose players who could also help fill the Diaw role. Heck he got 17 rebounds the other day!

Curry's contract is shorter than Diaw's and he can be a strong scorer in the post, although the rest of his game is lacking and he can be a black hole on offence. But playing between Crash and Tyson Chandler is probably the best situation for him. He could be handy off the bench for scoring spurts.

New York don't lose any salary for 2010, but don't gain any either, so it would probably only occur if they can't get expirings for Curry.

I would make NO move for Curry, even if it was straight up for Tyson Chandler. He is a lump of goo that is just a bvigger waste of money than TC. Wilson Chandler is a quality young player, but we can't give up DJ and Diaw without getting back someone like Lee. NY is not trading Lee. They will make every effort to sign LJ, and then resign Lee regardless of the outcome of that pursuit. Chandler is a low-dollar, valuable asset they will not deal easily.

My preference is to find a quality PF to trade Diaw for, but if we made a different move to get a starter-caliber 4 in here, I'd prefer to see Diaw be our 6th man. Bring him in to back up the 4 and the 3, get significant minutes, and perhaps play better in such a role. This guy just doesn't have the mentality to be a starter. We need to get him productive, to either contribute to this team or look good enough to trade.
