If they put Bosh as the backup center like last year.

Lopez is my pick here. The Nets suck though, so that can favor Horford. Anyway, Horford is any coach dream. He's as fundamental as they come, so I believe his odds of making the EC team are fairly good.

Also, Shaq might get the sentimental old-timer's vote.

I'd say that Lopez, Bogut, and Bosh are the biggest threats. I don't think Horford's chances are particularly good.

Bosh is listed as a Forward...

Noah/Bogut may be the logical threats suince their teams have at least 10 wins so far and both guys are putting up better numbers...

But we all know Dwight will start, but will the Hawks get any extra love like the Pistons a few years ago when they were coming off this championship-winning season and were #1 or #2 in the East....They had four players make the All Star team....

It doesn't matter whether Bosh is listed as a forward- we aren't talking about whether Horford will get voted in as the center. The question is whether the coach selecting will want Bosh there as opposed to the other options.

Honestly I think that Perkins has a better chance of getting selected than Horford.

Buckner - good call on Perkins. I accidentally left him off my list. He, Lopez, Bosh, and Bogut would probably all get the nod over Horford.

Ace - the difference between the Hawks and Pistons is right there in your post. They were coming off a mind-blowing destruction of a mighty Lakers team in the championship and were in the midst of a run of EC finals appearances. This Hawks team is a brand new phenomenon, and they haven't won anything yet. If we win a title and put together a sting of years like the Pistons, we'll start getting our fringe guys in the All Star game too.

Bottom line, Horford is the longest of long shots to make the All Star team. This year, at least.

If the Hawks still have the same record as the other east elite during the selections, I think he has a better shot than Perkins. It would be one thing if it were a Mo Williams/Shard Lewis sort of "this is a good team, ergo they need another all-star" situation. The Celtics will already have at least three players in the game though. KG, PP, and Rondo will all be in the game. Perkins won't get the same sort of love against Al that he would against Lopez because you can't use the "better team" rationale when the teams are almost equal and there are already 3 players on the team.

Atlanta has one guy as a lock on this year's team. Joe makes it because he is considered the "face of the franchise" (somehow Joe manages to be a perennial all-star even when he plays poor and also gets to be considered "overlooked"). Al or Josh will have to make it, both of them probably should.

Lopez is porbably going to screwed from consideration because his team is awful ala Jefferson in 09, but Bogut has no shot even if someone gets hurt. He's not better than Horford and his team is worse. You can say the same for Noah. I suspect that there will be no true backup 5 but that Lopez/Horford/Lee/Perkins would be the 4 that would be considered.

The smart money on the initial 12 man roster? 4 celtics+2 Hawks+2 from Orl+Lebron/Wade/Bosh and (gulp)....Allen Iverson.

Iverson/Rondo
Wade/Joe/Allen?
Lebron/Pierce/VC?
Garnett/Smith
Dwight/Bosh

If Josh Smith makes it i can't see Horford getting in. I seriously doubt they will take 3 guys from a team that hasn't won a second round playoff game.

If Smith doesn't make it then i think Horford has a chance. The fact that they play different positions is irrelevant as far as i am concerned.
