Golden Era Auction Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by TMACFORMVP » Mon Dec 21, 2009 12:33 am

1979/1980 - 2008/2009 Auction Draft

INTRODUCTION / PREREQUISITES

All Players that have played within this era with a THREE YEAR CONSECUTIVE peak are available to be drafted. 79/80, partly due to lessen the talent pool in a sort of auction draft, and also being the first season the three point line was initiated, eliminating arguments such as "Oscar Robertson could shoot threes, if such a line existed at that time." Three year peaks also eliminate one year wonders, and also limits the talent pool further, so owners whom get the top players don't automatically get a free pass towards winning the competition.

This will be a fast paced game, so there will be requisites you must meet to be a participant in this game, not only for the sake of keeping this moving, but for the poster not to ruin their own team by not being available during the auction. The main, and only prerequisite?

- ACTIVITY, and easy accessibility to reach you; meaning an email address, more preferably an AIM, or MSN account. It'd be great if you have proven to be reliable in other competitions that have gone on in this board. There will be no hesitation to bump you out, if the activity level isn't up to par.

RULES / REGULATIONS

- 16 teams
- 12 Roster Spots (Must be met)
- $58,000,000 cap (Cannot exceed)
- 1,000,000 minimum contract
- No trading, your building your own team to your specifications. No need.

This is how it works, there will be a set salary salary cap, right now estimated to be at $58,000,000. Players will be separated into tiers by positions (C, PF, SF, SG, PG) and a bench/everyone else category. The main 25-30 players will be listed, and everyone that doesn't get drafted will be sent to the "Extra/Other," category.

You can choose to use your cap however you like, but you may NOT exceed this cap limit, otherwise your bid will not count.

There will be a thread up on a single tier for what's right now expected to be 48 hours, or 2 days. The deadline for submitting your public offers would be at a convenient time for everyone, roughly 9 EST, or one that is open for discussion. If there were any last minute bids right before the deadline, there would be a 10 minute sort of "overtime," bidding in which you could outbid, until a decision is made. This helps eliminate posters just waiting till the last minute to post a bid.

You must be active, and involved in the bidding to not miss out on whatever prior vision you have with your team. The competition is expected to be a short one, 1-2 days per position, meaning 5-10 days for the starting lineup. And the remaining 4-10ish days to fill out the remainder of the roster.

There will then be a judging format, in which all posters will rank each other based on regular season, and be put into a playoff format, in which designated judges (in which I'll choose, only based on invitation) will judge the actual playoff matchups to determine the best team.

Any questions, comments, or concerns, you can post it on here. Or email me at t_mac_1123 at hotmail.com

after the last game i was so mad to even comment on how my team did,

BUT ive cooled down a lil, and decided ill give these stupid games one more shot.

I work monday and tuesday, but then i have like 2 weeks off so i should be very active.

do we pick a team in the league like GM or make one up again like BANT?

We'd basically make up the team, like BANT, so you can have whatever team you'd like, but that would just be the team you'd be representing, not necessarily taking over.

Seems like Cellar will join, and SamBone as well.

When are we kicking this off TMAC?

As I mentioned to you, early January and I'm good to go. Any earlier and I can't make it unfortunately.

I assume it will be in the new year with everyone so busy, but you never kow.

Same as Cellar. I might be getting my wisdom teeth out soon. I'm gonna have loads of stay-at-home time.

Count me in. It is my first auction draft ever, though.

My first auction draft was with Chris Reina and some others that clearly spend way too much time thinking about bball...and I had no idea how the draft was going. God it was rough.

That said, I'm a game out of 4th behind three clearly superior teams...so it could be worse.

Probably should decide on a time, the initial plan was to start ASAP because of the boredom I'm going through right now. But I'm not sure how that would accommodate everyone. I've talked to a couple GM's and they seem fine, but a more clear view on when it would be convenient for everyone would probably be better.

I hope we can get this thing started by tomorrow. With each tier only being 2 days, we only need to get through one before Christmas anyways. We can take Christmas as a holiday and pick up on the 26th.

I think to have more balance, some GM's suggested maybe stop the sign ups at this point (12), to get the ball rolling. The dilemma would be how would the playoff matchups work out, but we've come to one solution.

-> 4 Brackets of 3
* It'd be a sort of robin style playoff setting, in which one team would come out victorious in a group of three. So you'd face everyone in the designated group you'd be put in, and the best team advances. After that it's a group of four, so it's a regular conference finals setting.

In the case of:

Team A beats Team B, but loses to Team C
Team C beats Team A, but loses to Team B
Team B beats Team C, but loses to Team A

then the margin of victory in your series is the tiebreaker. More judges will be announced later. But I'm pleased to announce Gremz will be be one of the judges.
