not seeing it with eddie house

Post#1 » by Red2 » Sat Dec 19, 2009 3:30 am

i love eddie but for the most part he's been a non factor this season. he had another weak to mediocre game tonight and we need outside shooting off the bench and he's just not delivering.

Eddie house is a streaky shooter and just needs to get hot. DUDE IS nasty off the bench.

Agreed--Eddie has been a non-factor since Daniels got hurt (going back 3 or 4 weeks now to when he first hurt the thumb).

House needs someone to bring up the ball, and initiate the offense, or he won't be successful. Last night, he brought the ball up with the body language of someone who was pouting...nice and slow and deliberate.

Fact is, House's great season last season didn't begin until TA went down with an injury. Those two can't succeed at the same time. They're both better playing off-the-ball. TA is the superior player and tends to play better than House when they're both out there together, but they both could use a ball handler to take some of the pressure off and put them both in a good position to succeed. I'm hoping Hudson becomes that guy...as Pruitt showed last season, we don't need anything more than someone to bring the ball up and initiate the offense. Unlike Pruitt, Hudson'll probably be able to hit 3s, get to the rim, and create his own shot when necessary.

I loved last week when Doc basically threatened TA that if he doesn't start taking better care of the ball, he's not going to play. I'd love to see Doc make a similar threat to House--if he doesn't start bringing the ball up with urgency, and doing point guard things, he's not going to play. I'd love to see Hudson be given a chance to take some of Eddie's minutes. A backcourt of Hudson/TA would be a great defensive and transition lineup.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

I'm just here for the memes.

when was the last time eddie hit a "big" shot? he's great when we have a 15 point lead but it's rare that he makes a shot ( this year) when we need it

He's one of the streakiest players in the league. Don't get down on him when he's cold, just appreciate him when he gets hot.

It's a little frustrating that he was hot during the preseason, but hopefully he catches fire in the playoffs like he did last year. He singlehandedly killed the will of the Magic in a playoff game last year. When he's off, he can be so useless, though.

Yeah. I agree - the guy is a hot/cold player. Its got nothing to do with lineups or ball handling, IMHO. Let's not make weird excuses for the guy. Its not always a scheme problem. Sometimes guys just don't execute well.

If the fans know how to shut down Eddie, you can bet other teams know too. He's deadly when uncovered, but keep a little coverage on him and he's ineffective. His game is too one dimensional. However, he's still a pretty good bench player.

Eddie is a specialist who should be the 10th or 11th guy off the bench and not the 6th or 7th. If his shot's not falling he basically of no use to us. I will give him props though for his energy and hustle. The guy always plays hard and no one is a bigger fan than me when he hits a three pointer BUT we need more than what he can give. We need a real back up point guard who can create shots for other people and establish tempo in the game. Eddie can't do those things and one of the reasons why teams keep coming back on us when we get a lead is because the 2nd unit is exclusively a jump shooting group. without Rondo creating inside scoring opportunities the second unit flounders. You've seen lately that doc is playing rondo more and more minutes because eddie and others are ineffective in that backup role. It's too bad marbury was such an ass because if he had stuck with the program he could really have helped us.

Good points, but I don't think Hudson's the answer. His ball-handling is only slightly better than House's from what I've seen; I've seen ball-pressure flummox him as much as it does Eddie. The 2nd unit really just needs a PG who can dribble confidently with his head up. House and TA are both head down dribblers who drive right into traps. Ray and Paul also tend to revert to this mode when facing full-court pressure.

If only Marbury could have remained sane and approximated his historical FG%. He really was a good fit for the team. He really made House a deadly weapon.

Good point about Eddie, Tony, Paul and Ray, they all keep their heads down and pgs don't do that in high school, college or the pros. That's why they play the 2 or 3.

Lester keeps his head up at times but his control is marginal at this point, he doesn't get to where he needs to in less than 10 or 11 seconds and he has some of Tony's erratic/out of control looks when there's ball pressure.

We're in need of a point guard. Is Nate the Great an answer? What about Dan Dickau or Orien Greene or Telfair or that little UNLV pg that Pete was nuts about, I'm of course kidding, they all sucked, why can't we find a backup pg?
