Golden Era Auction Draft Thread [GOATS] *DONE

Post#1 » by TMACFORMVP » Tue Dec 22, 2009 6:50 am

These are the first players that are allowed to be auctioned off for. It'll be approximately two days, starting tomorrow at NOON. Offers can begin at anytime for anyone listed. Offers must be made in THIS thread. The minimum contract is $1,000,000 as of now, and rosters are reduced to now 12 deep.

The entire auction will be in this thread, and the title will constantly be updated for easy access to know who has gone, and for how much, where to find the next batch, etc.

Without further a due, here's the GOAT list, which is the group we'll start with, and are available to be offered for:

- Michael Jordan (SG) - bsness88 (23m)
- Earvin "Magic" Johnson (PG) - bryant08 (16.5m)
- Larry Bird (SF) - Snakebites (21m)
- Hakeem Olajuwon (Cc) - BlackIce (19m)
- Shaquille O'neal (Cc) - All In the Name (17m)
- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Cc) - TMACFORMVP (17.5m)
- Moses Malone (Cc) - SamBone (17.5m)
- Kobe Bryant (SG) - Baller 24 (20m)
- LeBron James (SF) - jcdallas24 (16.5m)
- Tim Duncan (PF/C) - Teddy KGB (19m)

It's a list of 10, so two will obviously not come away with one of these, possibly more as posters CAN POTENTIALLY get TWO of these players. But that can be addressed later, obviously as the next bracket comes out. Makes bidding more interesting ;)

This is the first time doing this, so hopefully it works out. REMEMBER CAP IS SET AT $58,000,000 AND YOU MAY NOT EXCEED THAT NUMBER. NO LUXURY TAX.

BID AWAY!

I'm very interested to see how this turns out. Considering the success/failure rate of certain players, I'm interested if some of the "GOAT" players might go for less $ than they are probably worth.

TMAC, may I suggest people only bid on a max of something like five of these guys? (You can always cancel one) It's going to be tough to navigate otherwise.

Also to be clear: we can only use Kareem and Moses from 79/80 seasons on up, right?

With those factors in mind, I'll put a bid of ten million on each of Bird, Jordan, Magic Duncan and Hakeem

I think it should just be that you can't bid more than the available space you have. In this case $58,000,000. Although I guess it needs to be slightly less, since you still need 7 more players, but you get the idea.

For instance, you can't bid more than $8,000,000 on someone right now since you already have $50,000,000 on the table. However, if someone makes a higher offer, you'll have more money at your disposal.

I just remember in the only similar game we did, people bid on like 14 people, and it was a fustercluck and near untenable.

The fact that I STARTED the bidding at 10m on half of them should make this much simpler though...weed out the useless bids.

You guys do realize there is absolutely no point in bidding right now, right?

Haven't either of you ever participated in an ebay auction?

True.

Seems like it would be kind of boring though to have no action for 47 hours and then 100 bids the next hour.

Perhaps.

But strategically, there is no merit to bidding now.

etc.

Then something would have to be fixed, because if no bids are going to be made until the last hour (especially for these players, when ultimately the price a GM is willing to go up to, will be the maximum regardless of bidding early, or later), then this competition will be a drag for the 47/48 hours like All In the Name noted.

I'd then suggest, completely getting rid of a time limit, and may the best offer win. Might stretch out the game further, BUT like Cellar did with the minimum, we'd raise those, to reduce the time of having offers lesser than a certain point? Thoughts?

All righty, in the name of getting the ball rolling after my regrettable comments earlier, I'll place 11 million dollar bids on:

Moses Malone
Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Quick suggestion.

TMAC, I think it would be helpful if you edited the OP to list the current highest bid and who made it next to each player's name.

SG: Sidney Moncrief / Lou Hudson
SF: Lou Hudson / Dennis Rodman / Peja Stojakovic

I can assist with that...as can Bryant actually. We'll be ninja editing one another.
