It's intriguing. But his price range is still in the area of everyone else. Perhaps it's simply, as you mentioned, because he is past his "peak" if you will, that he is not getting dominant attention. I'd still be looking pretty hard at him though.

Considering that Jordan went for 21m and he is not being used in his prime years, it's hard to fault his current pricetag.

I'd assume he is being used in his prime years, 80's for sheer dominance but bad teammate or 90's for better team work but no DPY.

You have to consider the quality of defenders in the two eras as well. One era saw Mark Eaton getting DPOY, the other was getting dominated by Rodman, Robinson, Hakeem and co.

True, but my point was Jordan will be used in his prime years regardless.

btw if Moses Malone goes for 15 mill thats a steal, his numbers are insane and he has like 2 MVP's and 1 Finals MVP in a 3 year span. I'd take him over Kareem in the 80's.

Well, Teddy said someone would have to bring it, and they did, up to $23M for Jordan. Does he top it?

I meant Kareem as the one who wasn't in his prime. I should probably use punctuation every now and again.

IMO, the two that just got locked in were steals.

Yeah, although it remains to be seen how big of an advantage that will be. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled with Shaq for 17 mil, but I'm not sure yet how much of a difference 3-5 million will make in the long run. It could be huge, or we may find that guys can be had for 7 million that are damn near as good as those going for 12. I've never done one of these before, though, so I'm sure some of the veterans would have a better feel for things.

Yeah, it's a steal, I would have bid higher on Shaq now that Miller just bid.

Do you guys think the 2nd day of bidding should be reduced to a 4 hour limit after the last bid?

I like that idea. Seems like people have been pretty active, so 4 hours should be plenty of time.

Tmac why no trading? Most here are knowledgable shouldn't be a problem.

Personally, i'll welcome the opportunity to not have to haggle or be haggled with for a bit (beyond the bids). I kind of like it.

I'm not sure, I think since we're bidding, there's really no need in trading, since we truly can get whomever we want depending on how far we want to go.

Agreed. Trading seems to make more sense in a traditional draft, because one person might value a first and sixth more than a second and a third, and someone else could easily take the opposite stance. In an auction, though, you could always look at it in terms of money, so I don't think trading is necessary.

Just my opinion though; I would be perfectly fine either way.

Fair enough, looks like I am rolling with Hakeem/Duncan.

Yeah, poor you...

EDIT: Although, I think there's still about an hour left until Duncan is yours.

On Shaq, it's a personal preference thing. He's too exploitable on defense even at his absolute peak (00). Obviously it's like complaining that your Ferrari's engine has too much power and it kills the gas mileage, but meh.

Yeah, that's definitely something I'll have to consider.

Still, relative to some of the other bids in place, I'm kind of surprised. I think peak Shaq is generally considered to be a better building block than peak Duncan. Not that BlackIce's offer was unreasonable; Duncan is still great, but I thought Shaq would go for even higher.

Duncan isn't locked in yet. The post was at 11:04 EST, so it'd be 5:04 EST. It's right now 4:04 EST, so there's still one more hour.

So...does this round have an actual end time, or just whenever 4 hours is past the last bid?

And TMAC, you going to be around later to discuss the next 14?
Edit: nevermind the around later...bball right after work, won't be home til 1030 est
