OT - All-Star Weekend: USA vs. The World
This is an imaginary thread...
If you're like me then the All-Star Game is a boring waste of time. Granted, David Stern - for all of his faults - has not done anything dumb like having the outcome of the game decide Home Court Advantage in the Finals (looking at you, Selig!), but the game itself is pretty lame.
So....let's steal a page from Hockey!
Wait - I can see that some of you are lost. Let me explain this quickly: "Hockey" is a sport played by cold people in snowy places where players lose teeth like they were Carl Landry in the paint.
back to the topic: Let's take a page from Hockey's playbook and change the format of the All-Star Game to be a "USA vs. the World" format. This could be a great way to showcase the influx of incredible foreign talent in the NBA while perhaps goading the guys who grew up on Sportscenter Highlights to step up to the challenge!
My question to all of you is who starts for each squad and who is on the bench?
USA
PG -
SG -
SF -
PF -
C -
Bench (6 players, any position)
Not-USA

Who plays what, when, where and why?

they are an "organized unincorporated us territory, they can't vote in presidential elections...not tryin to argue just stating facts.... all olympians from us virgin islands represent us virgin islands not the us, except tim duncan b/c there did not used to be a team

Virgin Islands are part of the US, so he shouldn't be in the international lineup.
This is like the All Star lineup, we're going for best talent, not the best overall team performance right?
Also, I'm not going to take injuries into consideration, or it would take away all the fun
USA
PG - Deron Williams
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Lebron James
PF - Tim Duncan
C - Dwight Howard
Bench (6 players, any position)
Chris Paul (either he or Williams can start)
Dwayne Wade
Carmelo Anthony
Kevin Durant
Amare Stoudemire
Andrew Bynum (I know any position, but there has to be at least one more big man)
Can go big with current starting lineup, or small with something like Paul/Kobe/Lebron/Carmelo/Amare, Wade and Durant can provide bench scoring.
Not-USA
PG - Steve Nash
SG - Ben Gorden
SF - Hedo Turkogulu
PF - Dirk Nowitzki
C - Yao Ming
Bench (6 players, any position)
Tony Parker
Manu Ginoboli
Peja Stojakovic (seems to be recovering this season)
Pau Gasol
Andrea Bargaini
Marc Gasol
International team have a slight advantage inside with Yao, Dirk, and the 2 Gasols. They can grind it out in half court with Yao (who I believe has never had a problem in the post against Howard) and isolate Dirk, or they can put in Bargaini at the C, surrounding Nash with shooters, and play a Suns style offense centered around Nash. Nash and Dirk or Nash and Pau pick and roll would be pretty fun to watch.

Re: OT - All-Star Weekend: USA vs. The World
Hate to have to correct you there Mr E.
Hockey is a sport played on a field, where people run around. (Incidentally Australia is one of the top 4 teams in the world at this sport!)
Ice Hockey, is played by Crazy Canucks. (Same game, played on Ice. Aussies suck at it, cause there isn't much ice around here!)
I know that us Aussies can be considered lazy, but Ice is only a three letter word.
Then again, Americans call Gridiron "Football" even though the ball actually only gets kicked about six times a game.
Like calling McLady a Basketballer, close, but no Cigar.

Re: OT - All-Star Weekend: USA vs. The World
East vs West, USA vs International are all stupid
it should be just team A vs team B
the two best players on last year Finals as team captain and pick the team
for example, last year was Kobe and Dwight
so Kobe and Dwight will pick their team and go against each other
Kobe won so he pick first
Kobe -> LeBron
Dwight -> D-Wade
...
...
...
etc

Field Hockey is for women and to give the commonwealth something to play during the Olympics.
I know many Australian (Ice) Hockey players most of which are extremely good because they are schooled in the U.S. or Canada. Don't be surprised if Australia slowly makes their way up in the IIHF standings.
