S1: if you're using the tv with a htpc this is not the one to get. it also doesnt have the bad ass movie viewing stuff. it's basically the 1080 version of the X1 while the U1 is the C1 (once tech improvements are considered).
if you can get the S1 for <$800 jump on it. .
They're offering me this for $800, free shipping and a free extended warranty. Good deal?
yes. that's cheaper than the current employee price (it was cheaper last week because of a promotion). i'd ask if you can get the G15 for the same price (which is the current employee price when the $200 off (that model) november promotion is factored in). but they are definitely offering you a good and fair deal.
It's here, installed and friggin gorgeous. Thanks again for the help banndc. I owe you a beer (or some bacon).

My old 32" CRT broke the day before Xmas Eve. Argh! Hate buying in a rush, but I think I did ok. Any thoughts? Mind you, I didn't want to break the bank (this was just under $1500AUD).

The newest thing is motionflow, it completely shuts the door on motion blur since it creates a transition frame between every frame. ask someone who knows in a store that specializes in tv's and see them side by side (motionflow vs non). you'll be sold (remember the first time you saw plasma and the hair on your arms stood up, try motion flow and you'll get the same feel. it pretty amazing)
good luck

So far so good. Of course, all of my components are mostly lo-def, but my recorder does have an SD tuner and can upscale DVDs to 1080p. Looks pretty sharp, I guess. I will knock the sound as being kind of weak, and that's a bit of a problem since the only audio out jack is an optical one.

the motionflow or trumotion or whatever really comes into play with regular dvds. componentry (cables)is key for good picture quality. Having an HD tv is useless if you're not going to have an hd cable box or watch hidef movies. lowdef signal on high def tv = sucky picture.
i have my tv and my media player and my digital reciever all going into a philips surroundsound set-up through hdmi btoh directions. hdmi for cable box, hdmi for media player, component cables for dvd player and optical for all sound. sound all nice and isht, but back in the day i bought a 720p not a 1080p because of a salesmans 'insights' into the matter. so all the fanxyness doesnt really gets put to good use until i get the 1080p.

the standalone dvd player (and sound system) is hooked up by component cable (or is it composite? its the one that ISN'T run-of-the-mill rca plugs), the SD dvd recorder is hooked via HDMI, and the brand-spanking-new (money pit, hello) PS3 is hooked up by HDMI.
haven't even been able to play a game yet because it keeps downloading updates. at this rate i'll need to upgrade my Internet account as well (they charge for download data Down Under).

rca is composite. the component is a total of 5 cables including audio. can you direct sound from the tv to the sound system? i always turn the volume down on my tv in order to enjoy the surround effect of my 5.1

the SD recorder goes into the sound system, so i can listen through there. although it is not surround. the sound system only does surround for its own dvd player. the next one will be better. but i might stop spending money for a little while.

Looking to buy a new Plasma. Should I get a 54inch Panasonic S1 or a 50 inch Panasonic G10? They're both roughly the same price. Size or quality?
