08-09 mvp voting
lebron james
1st place votes: 109
total votes: 1172
kobe bryant
1st place votes: 2
total votes: 698
So the question is, what does LA/Kobe have to do differently to avoid this kind of voting?!

Finish with the best record, and have Cleveland win less than 66 games. The only reason the voting last year was that lopsided is because the Cavs came out of nowhere to finish with the leagues top record.

Could come down to Bryant injuries then, how many has he got now, 3?!

Well, Kobe is one of the toughest athletes I've ever seen, so I don't think the injuries will hurt his MVP chances too badly, if it hurts them at all. What would hurt Kobe's chances is if the Lakers lose focus and start to slip in the standings. With the Cavs playing extremely good basketball right now, Kobe needs to keep the Lakers focused.

Or he has to keep making game-winners basically, they aren't blowing teams away too much these days!

It will be a tight battle between Kobe and Lebron all season long, the other guys simply have NO CHANCE.

The hilarious part about that is you don't even know you're being insulted.

as much as you wish it were true, that's not the only reason.

Nope, that was pretty much the only reason. I cite 07-08 as my reference, where he finished 4th despite having a breakout year statistically. As much as you want to believe it had more to do with other factors.....it didn't.

Re: MVP Rankings 1.0
statistically he was better in 09 than 08 and there is a wide range between 45 wins and 66 wins. You have to look no further than 08 to see that you don't have to have the best record in the league to win MVP, assuming LeBron had to have that last year or has to have that this year is just wishful thinking. He didn't just win MVP last year, he won it in a HUGE landslide (the 4th biggest landslide in the history of the award) . You don't get a huge landslide with just 1 extra win.
And don't look now, Cleveland is just 1/2 a game out of first place in the east.

He was SLIGHTLY better in 09, and EXACTLY! Further illustrating my point is the fact that the Lakers improved from 42 wins to 56 wins in 08 when Kobe won it.
He won in a huge landslide because the Cavs went from 45 wins to 66 wins. Anytime a player leads a team to that much of an increase in victories from the previous year, he's a virtual lock to win MVP. The media is suckers for stuff like that. You need to look no further than the majority of media outlets pegging Kobe as the MVP thus far. And by Majority.....I mean MAJORITY, so don't link to 1 or 2 that you find listing Lebron as MVP. You're notorious for doing that.

I've seen nothing more than a handful picking Kobe. Where does your majority come from?

What do you read? Because I haven't read ANYTHING outside of Cleveland where they were picking Lebron heading into the weekend. My majority comes from everything that I READ.
The only outlet I've seen pick Lebron is NBA.com, and that's only AFTER they decided to flip flop after the Christmas game. Which I don't blame them...because I flip flopped myself. You have example after example WITHIN THIS THREAD of outlets picking Kobe as their MVP.

Re: MVP Rankings 1.0
LeBron was 2nd in Defensive Player of the Year votes last season, so if that is the same this season then it would defy logic for Bryant to win the MVP over a guy that has better defense, better stats and about the same win/loss record!

Re: MVP Rankings 1.0
why are you citing anything before that game, which pretty clearly impacts voters.
The only reason there was even a debate a few weeks ago when those articles were being written was because the cavs were viewed as struggling. That's not the case anymore.

The magic beat the lakers both times they met in the regular season in 08/09.
Meant absolutely nothing in the playoffs.
Aslo about the christmas game, it doesnt help when phil is trying to showcase sasha and morrison for trade bait.
