Lions @ 49ers

Post#1 » by ajaX82 » Wed Dec 23, 2009 8:25 pm

A game like last week would be ideal: fight hard to the end but squeak out a loss.

Oh and if Culpepper starts or plays im gunna puke. He should have been cut weeks ago

I'm scared that if we start Standon, we'll win.

49ers have been pass-happy over their last 5 games or so....look for them to try and exploit our ultra-weak secondary.

I'd like to see a close loss. Good effort from our young guys, but a loss.

C'mon St. Louis.... ya know ya got a win in ya!!

Well the good news is that Cleveland and Tampa Bay won again. So even if so how the Lions win the last game of the season against the Bears, they'll still have the second pick.

St. Louis will get the #1 pick. Let's hope they fall in love with Clausen.

Harsh reality...we need to cut Stanton and Culpepper. We also need to cut the entire secondary, other than Delmas. Our DL has no "starters" but our current players could be very good depth. Again, draft all defense. First three picks in the draft should be DL, period. The 4th - 7th round picks should be best defense available (geared toward secondary). The reality is that our Lions will not cut the entire secondary (due to contracts)...

The Lions finally have some luck...they will NOT get the first pick in the draft. Let the Rams take their pick and it will be much easier for the Lions to not screw things up. My hope...Rams take a QB and the Lions take Suh. If the Rams take Suh, we take McCoy. Simple. Unless another team is in love with one of those DL prospects...we trade for some additional picks.

Well word is the Rams like Clausen. Let's hope that keeps up. I want Suh so badly. However, if Suh is off the board, I want the Lions to take Eric Berry. Berry is a dynamic S and can play CB also. He along with Delmas would be killer in our secondary.

Berry is a fabulous player, a stud. But, my worry is that with so little pressure on the QB, any secondary would be horrible. You could have the best secondary in the league, but if the opposing QB has all day to throw...you get the point. How many times this year do you see our secondary 30 plus yards away from receivers? It made me sick... Suh, McCoy, Berry...in that order. If we get one of the three, I would be happy. Suh - geeked. McCoy - very happy. Berry - happy. Anyone else, disappointed.

My list is Suh, Berry, McCoy/Okung (either or). Suh and Berry are 1 & 2 in that order. They are the best players available hands down. If we lose on both (not going to happen) I'd take McCoy or Russell Okung. We really need a OT and if the best players are off the board, why not fill a pressing need? Especially when that player is rated that high?

Osi Umenyiora is available. If we get Suh and Osi Umenyiora, that would solidify our DLine cuz we'd have Avril on the other side. We could do secondary the rest of the draft.

All four players would be needed. I believe that Suh, Berry and McCoy could be great/franchise type players. Okung doesn't seem to be a /great/franchise LT, but would be much better than Backus (move him inside). Yes, the Lions need a LT, but it is not pressing, IMO. DL and secondary are more pressing. If the Lions go with Okung, I would be very disappointed. With that being said, last year I thought the Lions screwed things up (on the surface - day of the draft) when they didn't take Curry. But, at that time, fans didn't know that the Lions had a "backdoor" deal with Larry Foote. If the Lions take Berry and sign Osi (highly unlikely that Osi would want the Lions, but he would get loads of playing time). I would still go DL and secondary the rest of the draft. This draft is not an OL draft...wait for next year. Also, the Lions wasted a late pick (as usual) on a back-up TE. Also, the Lions do not seem to sign any (or develop) undrafted FA's. They need to deep deeper and show these players that they would get an opportunity to play with the Lions.

Osi would be a needed addition, but every other team in the NFL thinks the same thing. Other teams boards are writing the very same thing. The issue with Osi seemed to be playing time, and "status" with the Giants. He was a pillar of that defense only one year earlier. He could start for the Lions today if he would sign. Of course, money is the issue. He still has two years left on his contract. There are several "what-if's" when it comes to Osi. If the Lions do sign Osi, they could draft Berry and that would fill two holes. They could then continue the trend and go DE/DT with round 2. Then DE/DT with round 3. Do not fall into the trap of drafting OL in this draft...it is a weak OL draft. CB/S in rounds 4, 5, 6, 7.

True. There are a lot of worth while guards but only one or two LT's I would want. Only reason I would want Okung is cuz he's from OK State (Which is where Pettigrew is from) and Pettigrew was mostly used for blocking in college so that would add much needed chemistry to our OLine.

But..... Suh and Berry are ahead of Okung.

Suh, Berry, Okung, McCoy.

Okung is our MOST needed player cuz protecting Stafford and keeping him healthy is the number one priority in building around him. There is such a huge difference in McCoy and Suh that it makes me not even want McCoy that much.

I keep flip flopping on Okung and McCoy as a third option. Okung is needed badly. He's no doubt the best OT in the draft, but the draft is weak offensively. He did play with Pettigrew and would add instant chemistry to our frontline. But McCoy is no slouch either. He's a good upstanding guy with a great head on his shoulders and an incredible work ethic which is what this team needs more of. He's also a good pass rusher and if it weren't for Suh being a once in a generation talent, McCoy would be the best DT out there any other year.

It doesn't matter though because i want Suh or Berry. Hopefully but Berry would concole my broken heart of watching the Rams take Suh #1. *prepares the kleenex*

Suh would be fabulous, but the real question is who the Rams will take at #1. They need a QB, in the worst way. Clausen just might be their man. Most mock drafts have Suh #1, Berry or McCoy #2. Clausen or Bradford are only mentioned in the top 5 because of the Rams. If they go with need (kind of like the Raiders did with JaMarcus Russell) a QB will get the top spot.
