if they get something like perez and castillo for zambrano and 10 million and then sign orlando hudson and bengie molina than i say the mets had a really good offseason.

Rotation after the moves:
1. Santana
2. Zambrano
3. Pelfrey
4. Maine
5. Niese

Lineup:
1. Reyes
2. Hudson
3. Wright
4. Bay
5. Beltran
6. Molina
7. Francoeur
8. Murphy
9. Pitcher
:D

i don't know which is more awful

1. taking bleacher report seriously
2. batting beltran 5th
3. having the mets sign molina
4. batting molina 6th

it's really tough

it's only 4 years. It's not a bad deal all things considered.

1. yes the source isn't good
2. beltran should hit 3rd
3. molina isn't even mediocre ... his OPS sucks and he doesn't draw walks. 2 times only in his career he reached over 20
4. molina switched with beltran?? as in molina 5th and beltran 6th?? really??

Good question. But I don't think that he needs to hit a homer every time he's at the plate cause Citi Field is a pitcher's park unless you have the power in those arms. A clutch single, double, or triple works for me. If he hits 25 home runs with a 100 rbi and close to .300 than that's a gimme for the Mets. The Mets just going to have to find a spot for him in the order they hit. I wouldn't mind him hitting after Jose Reyes leading off to the plate.

You're willing to pay 16.6M for #2 hitter? Those are good numbers you suggested, but I think that's stretching it. I see closer to 20HR, 75RBI, and .280BA; numbers that are great for a #2 hitter but not at 16.6M/year. Especially when you consider that the Mets are clearly expecting more than that out of Bay.

Is there a salary cap in Baseball? I believe is a big NO. If you want a outfielder that can hit, than I believe that that's the price. I don't agree on paying him 16.6 millions a year but if it keeps him from signing with someone else and it keeps us from giving this type of cash to Holliday than the Mets are doing the right thing here.

Bay>>>>>>Holliday for the cash the Mets want to offer.

There is no salary cap in baseball but the Mets surely have a "cap threshold" & now I don't think there is enough money in the bank to address pitching. I like Bay on the team but when you have so many holes I just don't see how this makes the Mets contenders.

btw- I doubt Holliday gets more. If some fool gives him 18 a year I will EL-OH-EL from now until opening day.

it's amazing how people ignore how his stats are because he played at coors.

with that said mets signed a player who's more awful than jeff francouer(shocking, i know) and that's bengie molina to a 2 year deal ... guess my josh thole jersey is going on hold, guess mets like guys who think walks are the dumbest thing ever invented.

Seriously, his numbers at Coors will get him 16.5 a year. What a joke. As far as Bengie goes....who else would you put there?

What I don't understand is that Molina & the Mets had been linked for some time yet they signed 2 catchers before hand. I mean, signing 3 catchers in 1 offseason? Seems pointless.

Coste will be in AAA to mentor Thole. Poor Omir Santos will probably be part of a deal, which is a shame because I liked the guy. Pretty sure we'll sign Molina and have Blanco as a back up.

also smh at the Yankee trolls, get lost guys..

blanco was santana's personal catcher when he had his best year for the twins
molina is signed because the mets saw his 20 homeruns and ignored everything else

gonna be hilarious seeing pitchers throw 6 pitches when they face francouer, molina, and the pitcher

Yankee fan here, I don't think the Mets overpaid. They need a big bat in the lineup. Hope Bay produces and the Mets get back on track after last season's embarrassment. Hope you get to the WS but lose to the Yankees :D

Bay is a good player but I'm not too sure he's what the mets need. He strikes out a ton and doesn't hit many extra base hits aside from HR's WHICH will go down now that he's playing in citifield.

The Mets should have gone after Lackey with the money they used on Bay. Sure their offense was a mess last year but that was due to the injuries they sustained. Reyes and Beltran are gonna be 100% next season. Wright should bounce back and Martinez should improve. Their SP is mediocre right now. After Santana they have no #2 or #3 guys. Perez has the stuff but has no control whatsoever, Maine is rarely healthy and Pelfrey is a 4th/5th starter at best.

Fair or not, the Yanks are the only team that can actually pay a player whatever and not have it affect the rest of the organization. No other team has the cash flow to do something like that.
