I can't believe some Met fans are complaining about this move..after having guys like Cory Sullivan and Fernando Tatis play left field for us last season. Bay is a proven slugger and he's been highly consistent throughout his career, this is a great move.

and I don't mind Bengie Molina on a 2 year deal. He brings a lot of intangibles to the ballclub such as veteran leadership. We can't afford to an inexperienced catcher out there with guys like Pelfrey, Maine, Perez and Niese expected to be in our starting rotation. Bengie will be great for the clubhouse and he's not a bad hitter for a catcher.

ESPN - Free-agent outfielder Jason Bay has agreed to a four-year, $66 million contract with the Mets.

A source confirmed the agreement to ESPN.com on Tuesday.

The agreement will become official when Bay takes a physical at some point next week.

The deal reportedly includes a vesting option year that could increase Bay's overall payout to slightly more than $80 million over five years.

The 500lb gorilla in the room is that the Mets can't spend as much as they would like because the Wilpons got screwed by Bernie Madoff.
