Greek basketball player Vassilis Spanoulis has been voted Sports Person of the Balkans for 2009.
Spanoulis was a key member of the Greece side that came third in the European Championships and the Panathinaikos team that won EuroLeague.
He won the vote ahead of Romanian gymnast Marian Dragulescu and Bulgarian boxing champion Detelin Dalakliev.
The annual poll, organised by Bulgaria's state-run BTA news agency, is conducted among the eight state-run news agencies of Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, FYROM, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and Turkey.
The list of the 10 best athletes of the Balkans this year also included: Serbian swimmer Milorad Cavic, Turkish wrestler Nazmi Avluca, Bulgarian football striker Dimitar Berbatov, Serbian water polo plater Vanja Udovicic, football players Goran Pandev of FYROM and Stevan Jovetic of Montenegro, and Greece's rowing world champions Christina Giazitzidou and Alexandra Tsiavou.

That's probably the biggest-most prestigious award I can think of any former NBA player ever winning.
