Got this idea after seeing the wiretap about NOH's luxury tax issues. While it's hardly a blockbuster, I think would be a heck of a way to take advantage of that TPE from the Vince Carter trade.
This is actually a 2-part trade:
Part 1
Hornets Trade: Devin Brown, NOH's 2010 2nd rounder and $1 million ($1,107,572)
Hornets Get: cap relief, TPE.
Lakers Trade: Adam Morrison and MEM's 2010 2nd rounder ($5,257,229)
Lakers Get: Rafer Alston, Devin Brown and $1 million ($6,357,572)
Nets Trade: Rafer Alston ($5,250,000)
Nets Get: Adam Morrison, MEM's and NOH's 2010 2nd rounders ($5,257,229)
Part 2
Hornets Trade: Hilton Armstrong, NOH's 2012 2nd Rounder and $2 million ($2,801,198)
Nets Trade: TPE from the Vince Carter trade
Why for the Hornets: By dumping Armstrong and Brown, the Hornets get under the luxury tax. When you include the fact that the Hornet would now be receiving cash from the luxury tax system, this deal would save them at least $8 million. With that type of savings, Hilton Armstrong and two 2nd rounders and Hilton Armstrong is a pretty small price to pay.
Why for the Lakers: They turn the corpse of Ammo and a 2nd round pick into a pair of guards that should help their woeful depth. Rafer is an upgrade over Fisher and Brown gives them a scorer off the bench. With the cash included, this deal costs them less than $1.25 million.
Why for the Nets: NJ puts their financial flexibility to good use. Thanks to the $3.75 million TPE they got from the Vince Carter trade, the Nets turn Rafer Alston into three 2nd rounders and a half-season flier on Hilton Armstrong. With the cash included, this deal only costs NJ about $800K.
I know 5 picks in the 2010 draft sounds excessive, but even if you use all the picks (and don't stash any players overseas), exercise the option on Dooling and make tender offers to Armstrong/Boone, you're at only 15 players. Plus having 3 picks in the top half of the 2nd round gives that much more ammunition to move up in the draft and/or get Najera out of town.
Due to roster limits, SWAT would have to be cut, but Hilton Armstrong easily replaces him on the roster.

Re: Trade Idea with LAL and NOH
It needs some tweeking. Rafer is not better then Fisher, and they have Jordan Farmar who's better too. So Rafer would be insurance but they don't need Ammo so no big deal but they would probably want to keep Memphis's 2nd rounder or just say no. Armstrong and Brown are both expiring so to save a couple of mil they would lose multiple second rounders. I don't think their situation is that bad. The Nets would consider but that TPE might be more useful come draft day. Turning Rafer into 2 2nd rounders would be nice but it won't happen.
Hornets say no, Lakers say yes if the 2nd rounder is removed, and Nets are on the fence.

Re: Trade Idea with LAL and NOH
^^Why would the lakers refuse this deal when their bench completely blows? They only give up Morrison, no way they turn this down because of a 2nd rounder that will most likely end up in the 40's.

Actually that pick would probably end up more in the 55-60
What i'm intrigue about is Hilton Armstrong. That guy was suppose to be this Marcus Camby type of player. However, he hasn't really done anything in the NBA. What is wrong with that guy?

It's Memphis' pick, not the Laker pick (hence pick in the early 40s)

Re: Trade Idea with LAL and NOH
^^it's still a crappy pick. The only 2nd rounders worth keeping are the ones in the early 30's since they're basicaly late first rounder with a better contract.
The 4oth pick shouldn't be a deal breaker since there's always a team selling a pick for a million or two and the lakers should have no trouble buying one of those..
