Helping the Knicks land LeBron

Post#1 » by ChazzleDazzle » Thu Dec 31, 2009 9:35 pm

Been thinking more about this, the more likely it looks that Rudy Gay will be an offseason target...

What if we help the Knicks land LeBron?

Wolves give
Blount, Cardinal, Wilkins, Sessions, Gomes
Wolves receive
Curry, Jeffries, Gallinari, Duhon, 2010 #1 pick

Essentially, we're delaying our expirings by a year, and being paid Gallinari and a #1 for the privilege. New York is one of the teams that I think would appreciate having a solid PG at an under value contract, and they can make the call on whether to keep Gomes once they see where the cap comes in and how much they'll need to lock up two max FAs. This puts them at just over $14 mil guaranteed for next year...

Meantime, this season this trade isn't likely to make the Knick's pick any worse. Not sure what the restrictions would be for it, but I'd push for as little restriction as possible.

Thoughts?

Knicks don't have their own 2010 1st, Utah does. Gallo isn't enough to take on Curry and Jeffries.

Beat me to it. Not to mention I dont want to help the Knicks get anything. Id rather them eat those contracts and end up with Carlos Boozer.

Crap. Proves I should double check before I jump in with both feet, eh? Totally agree on Gallo not being enough.

Ignore me...

I would take Curry if it meant getting Gallo. But not Curry and JJ

I don't know if I'd want the Timberwolves to take Curry, but Jeffries for sure. Jeffries still gives the Timberwolves room to absorb other team's junk and get assets in return, Curry would basically negate that. I don't even think the Knicks need to get rid of Curry to offer two max contracts.

The Knicks likely need more compensation, so the Timberwolves could give them the Utah pick - how funny would that be?

It would be like: Jeffries + Gallinari + Cash for Blount + Pecherov + UTA 1st

Or maybe Pekovic instead of the UTA 1st? Maybe they would need both? Who knows. Gallinari looks to be worth about a mid-lotto pick, and would be great for Love and Al.

There would be riots all over the MSG if they traded Gallo just to get more cap space
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

why? taking on Curry already means no max free agents in 2010, so what's the difference additional 7 million make? unless you're glenn taylor of course. not to mention that Jeffries actually plays, unlike Curry.

The difference is that you get eye cancer if you have to watch both Jeffries and Curry on a Timberwolves uniform even if it is just during warm-up.

we'd have 3 guys with almost the exact same skillset if Pekovic wants to come over. Curry would definitely delay him coming over for a year.

I don't know about that, it's not like Curry would play.

Don't we already have a fat blob named Jawai? Why do we need another one named after food? It would only make Jawai want to eat more.

Minnesota Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +18.1 ppg, +6.1 rpg, and +4.1 apg.
Incoming Players
Eddy Curry
Chris Duhon
Danilo Gallinari

Outgoing Players
Mark Blount
Brian Cardinal
Ramon Sessions
Utah Pick

New York Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -18.1 ppg, -6.1 rpg, and -4.1 apg.
Incoming Players
Mark Blount
Brian Cardinal
Ramon Sessions
Utah Pick

Outgoing Players
Eddy Curry
Chris Duhon
Danilo Gallinari

This is about as far as I would go to help out NYK. I know that the NY fans love gallo, but who knows how desperate they are to acquire more cap space. I added in Duhon to make salary match, but I know that Kahn wouldn't be willing to take on both Curry AND Jeffries in order to get Gallo.

Sessions and the Utah pick too? That's really pushing it my friend. Take those out and I the majority of Wolves fans still might say no.
