Rambis is Missed

Lakers coach Phil Jackson believes that some of center Andrew Bynum's struggles are because of the absence of Kurt Rambis.

Rambis, a former assistant in Los Angeles, is now the head coach of the Timberwolves.

"I think maybe Kurt [Rambis] being in Minnesota might have an effect because Kurt was working with him a lot more than Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar] the last year," Jackson said. "I think Kareem had a big impact on Andrew two years ago, three years ago, but Kurt was working with him more hand in hand than Kareem this last year. Kareem hasn't been here in maybe three weeks. I don't know if they're that close in their communications."

Bynum hasn't had a double-double in the last 20 games.

I really like Rambis and I almost feel bad for him getting into this situation. I can already see that he's a really good coach and a really good guy. I hope that we can give him the right guys that can show off how good of a coach he really is. Oh, and no LA you can't have him back

But in all seriousness. I want a strong 3 man big rotation. Whether it is Bynum, or Aldrich or someone else. If Bynum likes Rambis so much then why not? I just see no reason LAL moves him.

Do you really think that when they're healthy, either Bynum or Al would be happy getting minutes in the low 30's every game? That's not even mentioning that Love is only averaging about 32 minutes per game now, and he should be averaging more with the way he's been playing.

I do not see much reason to move away from the 3 big system. We know that the chance of all 3 guys being healthy all season is very rare. An uptempo system will mean the players likely do not log as many minutes also. Less minutes will make the bigs less likely to get hurt.

Agreed with your reasons that the minute split would be fine. Especially if the Wolves are winning. But, I do think there are a couple reason for LA to do it...

1. Phil needs a new muse (Rubio). Kobe won't play forever, and Fisher is almost done. Phil is on the fence with regards to returning. Bynum has never been one of his favorites.

2. Bynum isn't that essential to their title hopes. He barely played in last season's playoffs. But in Minnesota, he would be a featured player, rather than a role player.

3. Moving Bynum creates starter minutes for Lamar Odom. He plays better as a starter.

4. Rubio in LA is a goldmine for the Lakers and for the NBA.

...so maybe it is unlikely, but not out of the realm of possibility. I think it would be a great trade for both teams.

the "three bigs playing 30+ mpg" is nice in theory, but would never work in real life. one simple question: who finishes games? they all are young and ambitious, no way is one of them regulary sitting in the clutch. it could work, if one was a seasoned vet, who has nothing to prove career-wise, a-la '86 Bill Walton in Celtics, but with this guys? no way.
