Imagine if actual gunplay went down between the two in the lockerroom, if this story is true.

Too much drama.

Tension of what sort? What on earth kind of dispute went down?

Washington Wizards teammates Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other during a Christmas Eve locker room argument over a gambling debt, according to The New York Post.

Citing an anonymous source, the newspaper reports in Friday's edition that the standoff was sparked when Crittenton became angry at Arenas for refusing to make good on a gambling debt. That prompted Arenas to draw on Crittenton, who then also grabbed for a gun, league security sources tell the Post.

Asked by the Post about the confrontation, Arenas denied pulling a gun on Crittenton.

"This is unprecedented in the history of sports," Billy Hunter, executive director of the Player's Association, tells the Post. "I've never heard of players pulling guns on each other in a locker room."

Gil never had anything to fear. Javaris can't shoot.

How old is JC’s friend? I hate clowns like that. You know how bad this is going to sound if true? Why would you put something like that out in the media? I bet he swears that he’s a street cat too.

On a side note, no wonder why this team sucks right now. They need to cut out all the side drama and just play ball

got this from GB

coldfish wrote:If I was Wizards management, I would be looking to see if this violates the standard NBA contract conduct terms. This may be an out for his huge contract.

What do you guys think about it ? If he violates that contract. Wiz release without paying him this will save a lot $$$

Would you guys do this if he did violate his contract ? i.e. terminate his contract and players union cant fight it because he breached his contract.

This was one of my first thoughts as well. I would imagine that the player's association and Gil would fight tooth and nail against that. If this is true, both guys should be suspended for the rest of the season and the Wizards should try and terminate Gil's contract. If this report is accurate, I find it very difficult to defend either of their actions. It made me sad when I first heard this morning when I was called in to work and I still hope it is not true.

this isnt the NFL. You cant do that in the NBA. Even if there was some way they didnt have to pay Gil all the money, it still would count 100% on our cap. Why would they let the team of the hook? They will say thats what we get for signing him. No way that lets you off the hook.

On a side note, I never believed that EG tried to trade Gil because he loved Gil and its still early but if this story is true then that could be the reason why EG just had enough

It may stay on the cap, but if they didn't have to pay him, they still save that money which is huge. It occurred to me that my hope that the team would go back to its old and correct name of BULLETS just went out the window.

Wiz can trully rebuild. i.e. terminate Gil's contract, trade Jamison for expirings and trade Butler for young players + picks.

You could say that I am surprised but I'm really not. The things this team has done lately have been unbelievably disappointing. What a disgraceful way to honor Abe's legacy.

It's instances like this that make the saying that NBA players are undeservedly over-payed seem ever more true.

If this is indeed a real incident, Arenas just went from being one of my favorite players straight down to one of my most hated players. Disputing over a gambling bet? Really? Come on now, you're both millionaires. Get out of the ghetto. There's no reason for any player in the NBA to be fighting over financial issues.

I believe that every NBA contract has a no tolerance gun policy; the Wizards should by all means look into voiding Arenas's contract. This could actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise (at least, for the Wizards as a team).

Maybe Ernie and Flip knew about this all along, and this is why they are now suddenly willing to blow up the team? In any case, Washington would be foolish to have these dimwits stick around for much longer.

Apparently the Feds are now involved...

The Wizards said on the night of Dec. 24 that Arenas had stored unloaded firearms in a container in his locker at the arena and that the NBA was looking into the situation. On Tuesday, Washington, D.C. police said they were investigating a report that weapons were found inside a locker room at the Verizon Center.

Now, the federal government is also involved. Ben Friedman, a spokesman for the US Attorney's Office in DC, tells the Post "we're working with the Metropolitan Police Department on the investigation." http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/34651682/ns/sports-nba/

Wow. And all that talk of Gilbert's maturity, right out the window.

I sincerely hope these reports are false, I'm going to need more than Bookie Ball's 2nd hand account to believe it.

Given our history of embarrassment, you'd think it would be difficult to pinpoint rock bottom. I think we just found it. The owner dies leaving the team in limbo, the team continues to underachieve, dissension is rampant amongst the team, and it is all capped off with your overpaid star and an injured player pulling guns on each other. We are officially more embarrassing than the Clippers. I've never been more ashamed to be a fan of this team.

Return to Washington Wizards
