Late 1st round 2010 Draft Pick

Post#1 » by canucklife21 » Fri Jan 1, 2010 4:04 am

I personally feel with our late 1st round pick we should pay attention to players such as manny harris, paul george, Lance Stephenson, Kyle Singler. What do you wolves fans think

well..

The way Utah is playing, now out of top 8 in west, and quite frankly the bobcats also...

We may just end up with 1 pick in 1st round next year, our own.

Assuming they get it I think they'd be better off looking at a backup big. They'd be aiming for a big time wing with their first pick so looking to get another, lesser one later on makes little sense.

for a late 1st pick I can't imagine passing on Varnado if he's on the board. He's getting early 2nd round buzz right now for whatever reason, I hope everybody except David Kahn feels the same way. In the NBA he's gonna get dunks, rebounds, and blocks, blocks, and more blocks.

if it ends up we only get our pick, how much does it affect our cap room? we always seemed to guess high on the picks when estimating, like ours is one, bobcats is 13,utah is 18 or wherever the protection ends, but say we win a little more, and like always drop a little in the lotto, and dont get either of those picks, so instead of three at the highest possible we end up with pick 4 and our seconds, would that give us a million or two more in room?

i love the draft so i want the picks, but just wondering

edit:wow, didnt realize i was such an extreme lurker, joined nine years ago looks like and only 460 posts, i do the rounds every day on the forums but dont post like i used to

It depends on who's available though. While I like Varnado I don't think you can justify taking him over guys like Sanders or Udoh.

I know its early in the season but having the chance to Draft players such as manny harris, paul george or Lance Stephenson would be great even if we land a wing with our top 5 pick.

Why? If you just drafted Evan Turner or Xavier Henry why would you draft another guard?

Wait, let me put it another way. Why would you draft Trevor Ariza when you've already just drafted Lebron James?

If we draft a wing player early.

I wouldn't mind Cousins, Lawal, Monroe, Udoh, or even Brackins later on.

Because it is better to have a Ariza on the bench than a Rasho Nesterovic

A lot of the time the 2 and the 3 spot are interchangeable if you have the right players. Drafting Turner and George wouldn't dumb. They are both capable of playing both spots. It all depends how much you value a prospect like George over a prospect at another position.

If Paul George is a late first round pick I'll be amazed. There's no way he should drop that far. He's basically the same prospect as Corey Brewer was, except he's guaranteed to shoot 40% from 3. You just don't pass that up at #12, and Draft Express isn't always right.

George I like, but mid to late first is about right in this draft.

11-20 is a broad "mid 1st rounder". I think that's where he falls. But getting him at the end of the 1st round, 26, 27, 28? I just don't think he'll drop that far. That's a pretty big difference then dropping 16.

Remember draftexpress is mostly doing rankings based on how people are performing this season. They take team needs and rumours into account closer to draft time when George's potential will push him up the board. For now though he is a late 1st.

What do you guys think of Manny harris. Hes having a monster year and his all around game is one of the best in the country.

He reminds me of CDR a little bit, but maybe more like Marquis Daniels. I think he's an NBA player and so I like him as a 2nd round prospect, but the first round might be a little too deep for him this year, especially since the Wolverines are unlikely to play in the NCAA tournament.
