DeMarcus Cousins. How good can he get?

Post#1 » by THROWBACK_91 » Sun Jan 3, 2010 6:47 am

How good can DeMarcus Cousins get? He is currently mocked at 28 in the first round taken by Orlando.
He's game, which is basically a low past game and rebounding, is heavily relied on brute force which i think is mostly a bad thing and he has periods where hes invisible. BUT he has confidence in himself, never rushes and converts easy buckets and offensive rebounding opportunities.

I think ( watching him today 18 points 18 rebounds) he screams Kendrick Perkins on a championship caliber team if he gets consistent minutes in his rookie season. WHo agrees?

he has more talent than Perk but will probably never defend like him

hes more like Amare meets Zach Randolph type of potential/style

I'd say a slightly better offence/slightly worse defensive Perkins is a decent comparison for him. He doesn't look like he'll ever be a great defender but he's got a decent shooting stroke and, like you said, doesn't seem to rush things.

Kendrick Perkins is an elite defender IMO.

Demarcus Cousins will never be that.

I agree with teamjosh he is more Zach Randolph than Perkins

I would consider picking him #1 at worst I don't see him falling past 3 and likely him and Wall go 1-2. There is no player in college basketball who has been more productive per minute played. Add in he's 6-11 260 and you can do the math. Ed Davis is right there too. If Turner didnt get hurt--you have your top 4 right there.

Cousins reminds me of a cross between Zach Randolph and Derrick Coleman with many of the same good and bad connotations that the comparison might indicate.

He could stand to lose 10 more pounds and tone up. If he stays long enough at Kentucky Calipari will be good for him. Cousins seems like the kind of kid who could get easily caught up in the NBA lifestyle.

Are you confusing Demarcus Cousins with Derrick Favors?

Yeah the comparison i made with Perk is flawed because Cousins has somewhat of a mid range jumper like a randolph or amare and i think he could be more recognized than Perkins because hes a nice offensive player. It's either that or the other way round and he completely compliments a championship with some IMPROVED brute force style defense and ability to convert and execute in a pick n roll or interior game.

Yeah, he's put up great per minute stats, but I think he'll be just a little better version of Eddy Curry. He's already got the turnovers and fouling down pat.

cousins is a very underrated passer. in fact he hasnt been able to put on display half the ball skills that he possesses under calipari. it's probably for the best since guys his size arent supposed to hang out on the perimeter, but he definitely had the makings of an inside/outside game in high school.

Good talent but a nutcase.

He needs to stay in college because he's immature as hell. Coach Cal should/would do a good job of getting on his ass and making him live up to his potential.

As far as comparisons go, a more offensive skilled Erick Dampier.

He seems to be stuck to the floor at times.

He has a killer low post game already, and a fantastic offensive rebounder. If only he shot better than 55% FTs. It really gets annoying considering he is pretty good at drawing fouls at times. He is pretty passionate/emotional... a bit immature. But, when he uses his emotion for the good, he is almost unstoppable. His attitude is also very contagious. When he is pumped and tearing it up down low, his teammates always rally w/ him and they will go on a big run.

Initially I thought he was a 2 year player, but with his recent play, I think he is probably a lottery pick.. in which he will for sure declare IMO.

His only downfall is he is a bit crazy (like I said though; it can be a positive too), and his fouling issues. He's alot bigger than most of his competition, which could be why he gets called for tick tack fouls.

He was 25/28 at the stripe his last five games before Louisviile. The atmosphere during that game probably caused a lack of focus that caused him to go 4/8. Also, he's shooting 63% from the line...I think that will get better too - he just needs to develop a routine that calms him down when he's shooting.
