I still do not think we make the most of our assets by a simple FA signing. I think we use the cap space or expirings for a trade. We consolidate some assets in order to get a strong balanced 8-9 man rotation.

Pick assets
Ours, Char, Utah

Big man assets
Al, Love, Pekovic

wing assets
Brewer

pg assets
Flynn, Sessions, Rubio

expiring assets
cardinal, Blount, wilkins, etc

Instead of drafting and rolling the dice why not trade for a pending FA in 2011? Maybe a s/t where he is extended? A vet Butler, or Battier, or maybe a blockbuster for Durant, Green, or Thad young? Mello, maybe Randolph, Gordon, beasley, Granger, Josh Smith or Marvin Williams, Ariza, Kevin martin, M. Webster, R. Brewer, A. Morrow

I am throwing names out, but I think we target teams that 1.) fiscally cannot resign guys to long term deals (This will be an issue in OKC) 2.) Have an imbalanced roster 3.) Are either on the decline or have peaked and want to rebuild. We have the assets to do a "boston" and bring in 1 or 2 big ticket players. The league is a perfect storm for an owner willing to move and spend.

So Johnson/gay is too much in the box thinking. I think we kahn think outside the box.

Ellington should be included amongst the wing assets. He's picked up his game the last week or so.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

I wish so. Ellington and Brewer would make decent complimentary rotation pieces.

JJ would be the absolute perfect fit for this team. His on court game is exactly what is needed and he's already gone to a young team and grown with them into a consistent playoff squad. The complaints about his age make it sound like he's Steve Nash instead of a guy in his prime and ignore the fact that his size and style of play will allow him to age gracefully.

All that said I see no reason for him to sign here.

I still like Josh Childress as a plan B free agent signing. He should be considered for us with the second tier of free agents -- w/ Outlaw etc.

He's a great perimeter defender, still only 26, and putting up solid numbers in europe this year.

I like him too, but that atlanta situation is scary and I think we want an offensive difference maker at the other wing spot.
