J-O-B Is Not The Problem...

Post#1 » by FortWayneFlash » Mon Jan 4, 2010 6:18 am

Hey, I'm not saying that J-O-B is John Wooden, but the roster just isn't very good. Great players trump bad coaching. Pacers do not have great players.

That's been a point that's been articulated before, but it's easy to heap blame onto a coach.

Haha. Ford is listed as "decent".

Watch your tone.

That's not really a fair card to play. Injuries HAVE to be considered here, Granger has missed 15, Dunleavy 13, Hansbrough and Murphy near 10. Foster has been out of play for 17 games also, you can't honestly expect the coach to take the entire wrap for those concerns. I mean we're only 33 games into the season and look how many times players have been unavailable.

Not to mention the form of TJ has been less than stellar, again hardly O'Briens's fault as he's given TJ a lot of free range to make his own plays on occasions.

Not singing JOB's praises, merely pointing out that he has not had a LOT to work with - so far - this season.

from me in another thread that also pertains here wrote:Obie's just a "time filler" as a coach, and I doubt Larry ever had expectations that he was going to lead us to the "promised land".

We hired Obie as we were about to go into a full tear-down and rebuild. No valuable coach on the market in their right mind would come here to face that, nor an up and coming young coach who wants to stay a head coach in this league, as it's essentially a death sentence. You KNOW you're going to be so bad that you're going to be fired sometime in your first 2-4 years in that city, and that you'll have to work EVEN HARDER than EVER to get back to a head coaching job after you've been fired from the first.

Meanwhile, Obie was sitting at home with nothing better to do, and he was known for working his players hard and getting effort out of them. What else are you looking for in a coach that isn't going to last 4 seasons, and is going to be stuck with young guys who need a work ethic shaping?

Is there a reason why we're not merging repetitive threads anymore?

Yeah, we'd end up with about 2 and a half threads. I feel that we've had enough "fire Obie" threads that this is a a nice change of pace.
