I counted the stops Tony had last night on a cutting point guard and it was at least 6 stops, stops that Rondo would've been picked off. One of the screens was a double pick and TA still got a hand in Jack's face and prevented the easy bunny. Rondo would've countered with a couple of steals but that still is a lot of prevented points from the pg position.

14/7/5 and 3 TO's a decent stat line. A foolish tomahawk dunk at the end of the game that could've been another season ending injury.

Rajon would've gone off for a lot more points but I'd love to see him fight off a few picks this season.

Great start at pg Tony, the last start that I remember was two seasons ago against the Lakers, a win that night too.

That's true about Rondo, his major problem is that he lets his man drive to the hoop at will. I don't know if its because he's skinny or what, but it needs to be addressed.

Back to Tony though, he's reminded me of the Tony of a few years back. He hasn't had his head down with his jersey in his mouth. I think that stems from his being able to start and gain confidence.

everyone gets down on TA's decision making but every time he plays PG our team runs better with him than anyone else besides rondo. better than Eddie or Ray or even Quis.

I think TA si just healthy. when healthy he's a decent starter and a quality bench guy. that's the guy we've got back, at long last. if he stays healthy he can be a big asset for us.

¸I only watched the half of the last game and he just can't run a half court set, gameflow was awful when Ray was out, specially with a lineup of Tony, JR, Baby, Shelden, , Eddie. It might not be just TA's fault, but his dribbling, holding to the ball and passing left much to be desired.

He's a heck of an athlete and amazes me at least a few times per game. When his head is in the game, he is a nice player. I get nervous every time he throws a ball away though. He'll hang his head and I'll think "he's done". But he hasn't let himself get too down so far this year.

PS - Am I the only one who crosses their fingers every time he goes up for a dunk?

I was a hater of him back during the summer, but I'm glad to still have him on the team. I hate to say it, but he might be the answer to our backup point problems once everyone is healthy.

Really, look at that lineup. It's obviously not all TA's fault. They're all players taken from the worse half of our 15 man roster.

i think a Quis/TA backcourt could work well. both can bring the ball up quickly and get into sets, so they can take the pg pressure off each other. they are a bit redundant on O, but if you put some jumpshooting bigs with them like BBD and KG, and maybe Ray on the wing, that can open up the middle for them.

I think you make some good points here. Staying in front of your man and keeping them from getting easy buckets don't come up on stat sheets, but IMO, it's probably the most important part of defense. For all the steals Rondo gets, he also lets his man get by him too often. It kinda reminds me of the way Kobe used to play D back in the days when he knew he could take a lot of chances going for steals with Shaq erasing every mistake he makes behind him.

Props to TA for getting some love here, as it is about time. I ahve always been pro TA on this board. I have a feeling that when Daniels comes back House may be the odd man out in the lineup. If we want to give Ray a little more rest House will be the shooter in the backcourt with Davis and Sheed in the frontcourt.

Daniels is better the House but Doc loves em shooters.. Heck i suspect Hudson is as good as House but shooters > all for Doc. If you can shoot 40% from 3 you WILL play for Doc.

But if you can shoot 40% from 3, why wouldn't you play? Every team needs a guy who can spread the court and make shots. It's not like House is playing 40 minutes a game...

I am not really attacking Doc for this. Just pointing out that he values shooting very very highly. At nearly any other aspect both Daniels and TA are superior players to House. But shooting is of course his trump card. I think Ray Allen is closer to this kind of player as well. I think Daniels has a better handle and plays smarter ball but he is a relative non-factor because of his average jumper.

That's why Rondo deserves all the credit in the world. I have never seen a non-shooter perform as well as he does. Even Kidd shoots better - before someone brings him up.

3 out of 5 guards in the rotation can't be counted on to hit a jumpshot. That's cause enough for a one dimensional shooter to get 17 minutes of PT.

I am one of the TA "haters" I suppose. Am I glad he's been playing better? Yes. Do I trust him to keep it up for the long term? Nope. Seen too much of all the bad stuff he's done over the years. He's going to have to continue to keep playing well over a much longer period of time to have me trust him.
