My reply is here: viewforum.php?f=182 where it should be. :) Shameless plug for the Skins board that nobody goes to, despite the fact that a lot of people post in this thread. BE MORE ACTIVE!

I am waiting on Eric DeCosta before I make up my mind on all of this. DeCosta is a personnel guy I respect and if the Skins put him in charge of player personnel I will believe in this change.

The staff will want to work with Campbell to see what they can do with him next season. The Skins will probably bring him back.

There will be good prospects in the 10-15 range of this draft. Hopefully collecting picks and bringing in new blood is a major priority. Trusting the current roster to change isn't a good decision IMO.

I dunno ... I'll start with better decision making and more wins.

I have been an ardent JC apologist over the years, but my eyes have been opened. He's exactly like Kwame ... all the physical tools in the world but simply doesn't have the mental capacity and drive to be anything other than a perennial disappointment. He'll wow you ever now and then to keep the fans in his corner, but will always come up short when it matters.

Campbell's numbers have always seemed better than his production in key situations.

Unless a great QB is available I think Campbell should be QB for another year or two. I think adding a vet back-up who is a legitimate challenge to Campbell to start and can step in is the key for the near term.

Well duh, he's not a great QB at all. He's just not a bust that should be sent on the first train out of town.

Imo, Jake Delhomme is a great comparison - pretty solid, but is sometimes inconsistent and makes bad plays, but will make just enough plays for a team with a solid defense and running game to lose in the conference championship.

I understand that you need a star QB or a hot defense to win a title. But Campbell isn't a horrible player, and on the right team he can be consistently solid, even make a Pro Bowl or two. But I want us to draft Jimmy Clausen, so if I get my way, it won't be with us.

I don't see how Campbell is much like Kwame. Campbell, by all accounts, is a good person who works hard all the time. He's not all that good, but still. Kwame was ill-behaved (at times), didn't work on his game, and quit on the team during the playoffs. I just don't see the comparison.

Count me as not all that convinced Shanahan's going to be all that.

I think the Redskins should have stuck with the continuity they finally got going towards the end of the season and just made improvements on the OL.

I think paying a bunch for Shanahan, who couldn't make the playoffs the last three seasons in Denver and who's not much of a defensive coach will prove to be starting all over again once he brings in all new people.

I think the Skins should have just fired Zorn and made Sherm Smith the coach.

I'm sorry CCJ but you are so wrong about this. The staff Shanahan is assembling trumps the garbage that embarrassed us two weeks in a row on prime time football. What continuity? The team that went 4-12 with abysmal stats?

Shanahan is a winner. People bring up the lack of playoff wins without Elway but what great coach has won without a bonafide superstar QB? Shanahan was getting there with Cutler but the Broncos messed that up and look at them now, they appear to be headed the same path the Redskins were two years ago.

Shanahan is bringing in Mike Zimmer who people are crediting for the turnaround of the Bengals defense and Kyle Shanahan who is regarded as one of the brightest young offensive minds in the league. Most likely Alex Gibbs (the best OL coach in the league) will be joining him as well.

Sherm Smith? Seriously? Shanahan has the 2nd most wins of active coaches and the third best winning percentage. You don't pass on that chance to promote Sherm Smith who hasn't done squat in the league, let alone turn around one of the most horrid offenses.

With Kyle Shanahan in the fold, there's certainly a blueprint for continuity in place. You'd have to think that he's the odds-on favorite today to be the Skins' NEXT coach. Given that he's only 30 and what the Houston offense did this year, I think that's a good thing.

So Shanahan has had limited playoff success without Elway. So what. It's hard to win in the playoffs. He sure gets there a lot though, and he won a bunch of games with some pretty underwhelming QB's in Brian Griese and Jake Plummer.

Since it's Snyder and the Redskins and I'm no way convinced that this is going to turn things around. But I think it's a smart move and am cautiously optimistic.

And after the Elway-Broncos era ended, the Manning-Colts and Brady-Patriots era started. His four play losses after Elway retired were against the Colts, Ravens and Steelers. The Steelers and Ravens won the Super Bowl in those respective seasons. His team was the team that ended the Patriots dynasty in 2005 and played in the AFC championship game with Jake Plummer leading his offense.

Shanahan is a top 5 coach in the NFL.

Okay ... I'll concede from a head case and work ethic standpoint, comparing Kwame to JC is way over the top and unwarranted.

However, my view that JC will never be a competent NFL QB due to his lack of pocket IQ has not changed. Really, to me the only valid comparison to Kwame is having all the actual physical tools in the world but not being able to capitalize on those god given abilities.

Good point. Allen does not come across as someone who does a lot of scouting. He's like a coordinator or CFO. He's a board room guy - not a fieldwork guy. He sets up systems, organizes, is a good with numbers, but... his drafts look mediocre at best. It sounds like he needs a top personnel evaluator to take control of the draft.

Shanahan on Jason Campbell: "I'm looking forward to working with him. I love the way Jason handles himself. . . . I'm looking forward to watching every play he's had in his career. Hopefully his best years are ahead."

You can go jump of a building now, G0A. :D

As for "overpaying for Shanahan" as CCJ suggests, I read somewhere that the Broncos are paying half his salary (they were paying the entire 7 mil he was owed since he retired). So the Skins are getting a discounted price on Shanny.

Yeah because he's going to come in and say "I hate Jason Campbell" right

Shanahan has already been in contact with Dr. James Andrew about Sam Bradford. I could care less because even if Campbell comes back, he's gonna be on an extremely short leash :D

He didn't have the same ringing endorsement of Portis, now did he? But just to make you even more upset:

Shanahan expected to retain Campbell

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... 805&spln=1

And of course he's going to do due diligence on ALL the players that are supposed to go top 10. It would be stupid if he didn't.

I hope you aren't expecting Shanahan to make Campbell his guy because you will be sorely disappointed. You are taking his press conference quotes as if that is his season plan . Of course we are bringing Campbell back. We aren't signing him to an extension. He's going to get a tender offer because he's an RFA for this year. We're going to draft a new QB at #4.

If nothing else these guys both know how to say all the right things.

Mike Shanahan
When you look at this team, do you see 4-12 and a bad team? Or do you see a team that could have been 7-9, 8-8?

"You are what you are. If you're 4-12, you're 4-12. I'm looking forward to watching a lot of film and evaluating this guys and figuring out how we're going to get better."

Bruce Allen
"No one on this team is better than 4-12."

Mike Shanahan
What do you look for in an offensive line?

"You know you've got to have players up front. I don't care if it's offensive line, defensive line. You win with those big guys up front. You have to have that, so that will always be an emphasis for me because you can't find teams that are successful without that."

I think we're not supposed to do this on the various boards (cross pollinate sports on discussion threads). But F it. Gonna start doing it anyway.

Washington vs Philly tonight (as I type this) that can lock in their worst to first move in one season. Game starts at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

Here's a thread on the correct board. Join Lyrical and other diehard Washington fans for smart thoughts.
