After the suspension, which PG should we sign?

Post#1 » by closg00 » Wed Jan 6, 2010 6:57 pm

When the Gilbert suspension comes-down, which PG would you like to see the Wiz target via trade or FA signing? Of-course there's the chance the Ernie will ride the season out with Boykins & Foye, but I think that Ernie will sign someone, perhaps on 2, 10-day contracts at-first.

My choices would be:

D-League: Curtis Stinson or Will Conroy
Free Agent: Brevin Night
Trade: Roderique Beaubois

I can pretty much guarantee that they don't sign anybody because of the luxury tax hit. Maybe some 10-day contracts (not sure when those start) but I highly doubt they sign anybody to a contract for the rest of the season.

What about the $$$ we'll save by not having to pay Gilbert? I don't think that we'll turn things over to Boykins to be our full-time PG, and Foye isn't a PG.

Curtis Stinson, closq.

Plays great defense and is a playmaker who can score. Belongs in the L.

The thing about him is he's a bad shooter. Seems to shoot it anyway. Otherwise, he appears to be very good defender and distributor.

That's where the 10-day contracts come in. If Gil is gone for 10+ games you can get by on a guy with a couple 10-day contracts. But even then he probably still won't play. Foye may not be a PG, but they gave up a lotto pick for him so I would expect for them to give him every chance there. And we've seen how much Flip trusts Boykins. Throw in a healthy Mike James and there's your rotation - all at no additional charge.

But what does it really matter if the Wiz are blowing things up anyway? Wouldn't you WANT guys like Boykins and James running the point so we can lose?

 I completely forgot about James. No-matter, I assume he'll be part of a trade package before the deadline.

Another option after Gil's suspended would be to sign this guy:

http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/i ... ris_almond

29.4 ppg on 52%FG, 44% 3PT, and 83%FT in the D-League might suggest he should be in the NBA.

not that i've ever seen morris almond play, but 1.4 assists per game in the dleague doesnt suggest to me that he can play the point in the nba.

But he turns the ball over more than that guy, Morris... Cashew?

Actually, Stinson sounds like a good choice considering the options - good links. He looks like a strong safety, so I'm guessing he can D up.

Isn't that what people said about Laron Landry? But yeah, Stinson sounds like a good 10-day contract type guy.

I'd just go with Foye and Earl for now. Maybe see if Foye can improve his trade value with some point guard minutes.

Stinson would be a good pick up.

Maybe trade for Ramon Sessions.

I'd just start Miller at PG and hope Foye can cover for the few minutes we sit him.

This team is toast. I'd say just start Foye, give him 40 minutes a night at PG and see if we get his numbers back up and rebuild his trade value. We'll lose but maybe we can strengthen a trade asset.

Now if I want to go CCJ's way and find a former failed NBA prospect that I loved in the draft, Shaun Livingston is available!!!!

Why sign any PG? We can always have the guy that threatened to shoot Arenas in the knee play some of those minutes.

Javaris Crittenton is already injured. I guess Mike James will be activated :(

The solution has come to me.

Will Avery!!!

As Cheryl Crow might say - my favorite mistake.

Uh oh, a bad thought just came to me. We have an assistant coach who looks kinda funny... Sam Cassell set Gilbert up!
