Hudson Released

Post#1 » by DJToLarry » Thu Jan 7, 2010 12:22 am

Hudson waived

MIAMI — The Celtics have just announced that Lester Hudson has been waived.

The rookie point guard was with the team here this morning and took part in the shootaround.

By releasing him today, the Celtics do not have to guarantee his contract for the rest of the season. More importantly, it opens a roster spot the club can use down the line if necessary.

Didnt see this coming, I wonder what this means for the trade deadline/mid-to-end season signing we seem to pull off every year.

Too bad, I really liked the guy.

It was due to money. According to tanguay.

Pretty much expected. Good chance he comes back on a couple 10 day contracts late on.

Danny's waiting for Arenas' contract to be voided and suspension to be lifted.

This is a huge surprise--I hope he's coming back on a 10-day contract at least. I think/thought Les had the best future of our 3 young guys. I would have released Giddens before Hudson. Giddens has no future.

Rondo's been raving about Les and their pregame one-on-one battles. He's gotta be bummed.

This sucks. It is clear that it was for roster flexibility, though. Danny likes that 15th slot open. Hope we sign this kid to a 10 day contract at least.

Wow, quite surprised, especially after that raptors game. I know he wasn't amazing, but we could still use somebody who can dribble right now.

I guarantee you that if Giddens was on the unguaranteed deal and Hudson was on the rookie deal, they'd have waived Giddens.

weird...

i know danny likes having the open spot, and this might save a couple hundred grand but lester is really the only true back up point at the moment, and it seemed like he was the most confident and useful of the 3 young guys

maybe Lue has been training and is ready?

Alston is going to the heat so while the timing is there its definitely not that..

well, its interesting at least, wonder if theres another buy out or something on the horizon

Why is alston going to the heat? They just guaranteed Arroyo and have Chlamers.....

if you check their board there is an update from him saying hes excited to go to miami etc, seems pretty much like a done deal after the quinn trade

i think they have just lost faith in chalmers completely

when you are benched in favor of Carlos Arroyo the team has definitely lost faith in you.

Not so happy to hear this. Love to see him back in green. I feel like he might turn to be Will Bynum on us.

I wonder if there could be a last ditch effort at Alston?

Hudson seemed like a decent talent, I'm fairly surprised to see him go, especially with the current injuries, although House should be back soon and Rondo and Pierce are back.

I wouldn't expect Lue to be signed any time soon, although I supposed he could have a 10 day contract now, then go back to coaching, and then sign another 10 day as needed. The reason I say this is, after two 10 day contracts, a guy can only be signed to a guaranteed contract for the rest of the season. So basically we can only have 20 days of Lue before we have to decide on him for the rest of the season, and I'd imagine we'd want to retain some more flexibility until later in the season.

The nice thing is we can now brainstorm about FAs again, now that there's an open roster spot. It would be tempting to grab a big SF who could defend, but the PG hole is pretty glaring now. I think if there is a useful backup 3 out there though, you go ahead and drop Giddens to get him. btw what's the status of Walker's contract?

Hmm, a bit of a surprise. i seriously doubt it has anything to do with Rafer. it's all about the cash. remember we are paying dollar-for-dollar more being over the tax line.

That's too bad. i thought Les had a nice future. he still does, but probably not with us. maybe we can sign him back in the offseason if he works on his game in the D league.

TA was playing a better PG than Hudson anyways. and when MD returns that's another guy who can handle, and who was ahead of Les.

After looking at the rules a bit, it seems like we can resign Les to a non-guaranteed contract on Friday when he clears waivers, meaning we retain roster flexibility going forward if we decide we need an open roster spot. If we hadn't waived him today, his contract became guaranteed, meaning we'd have to pay his salary to get his roster spot.

This was all about money and flexibility--I think he's coming back on a non-guaranteed deal.
