Not that they were bothering us that much, but might end up helping our playoff chances too!!

Agreed! What will be also interesting is if the Wizards try to fire him for cause and say he violated the Contract and not pay him the rest of that HUGE Contract. Now that will be a battle. But wont surprise me one bit if that comes down soon.

I think if the Contract is VOIDED by the NBA, then they are clear of all that money. But that will be a horrific battle. Imagine someone trying to VOID you of $100,000,000.00, whether it was deserved or not! You would fight like hell, tooth and nail.
My guess is they will VOID his Contract, he will sue and this will get settled out of court for an undisclosed lump sum of money.

i cant believe he was joking around before a game recently pointing his fingers like guns. get a clue.

i loved arenas for his sense of humor and the fact that he didnt take basketball or himself too seriously. i dont doubt his story about placing the guns on the chair as a joke and less as a threat. seems like everything is a joke to him. but man, at some point you gotta get serious.

And when Gilbert "laces them up" again, what will be the fan reaction across the league? I'm sorry, but the "I wasn't thinking" excuse doesn't do much for me. If GA wants to play sharpshooter, he needs to decide in what arena he wants to practice that profession. If basketball is his route, he needs to sit down with someone and get some good, solid advice on how to stay in the good graces of the league that has made him a household name.

And from another angle- when the NBA "schools" the rookies on do's and don'ts next year, the league needs to crank up the volume on the guns subject. These guys do have the right to bear firearms... but when the league mandates that the guns stay off properties that are owned or used under the league's authority, then players should comply or face banishment. I like Gilbert's game, but I have lost a ton of respect for him at this point.
In loving memory of Barbara Hickman Taylor 07/20/1955-11/27/2010. Rest in Peace Sweet Lady!

my question is what took them so long..you cant have a player out there talking about how he had a gun in a basketball arena and the playing the next night....i mean really they suspend players the next day for running on the court during a fight but they take 2 weeks to suspend gil for bring a gun to the arena??

They'll do their best to get it voided... I know I would, his contract is ludicrous.

I'll be really honest though... what Arenas did is frankly very mild in comparison to some of the things athletes have been convicted of lately. We'll see what ends up happening to him, but I'm really not sure why this is getting treated like it's the end of the world. I mean, SJax actually FIRED a gun during a fight, got convicted of criminal recklessness, and got suspended 7 games.

What Arenas did was wrong and stupid, but I don't really understand the hysteria.

im with you paydro. i think people are blowing this way out of proportion. i was listening to sportsradio on my way home and they were treating this on the same level and the pistons/pacers brawl. he's a moron for doing the finger guns though. all said, i think a 10-20 game suspension would sound about right, but i have a feeling he's gonna get much much much worse, something like 1 year or more.

I think you're both right, it certainly seems like it's building towards a conviction of some kind (probably all they'll end up doing is gun charges) and a year suspension. I can't help but think this would go differently if the Wizards were not terrible and looking to both void his contract and tank the season.

If I was the Wizards owner I would void his contract and sue him. This "little" stunt Arenas pulled will cost the Wizards millions of dollars and tie up a roster spot with a lot of dead money. This loser is done in Washington. Always hated this clown. Wizards will probably play much better now that his selfish ass is gone.

Exactly, this is a window to a blow-up. If the Wizards were 22-10 or something I doubt they'd be taking drastic action.
