KG out for two more weeks?

Post#1 » by Al-Haqq » Wed Jan 6, 2010 11:59 pm

Celtics forward Kevin Garnett is dealing with a hyperextended right knee and could miss more time.

Boston coach Doc Rivers says that Garnett could be out "another week or two weeks. I haven't asked."

Garnett, who is averaging 15 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, has missed the Celtics' last two contests.

I'm always annoyed at how accepting Doc Rivers is about these kinds of things with the addition of him being uncertain. 'Yeah KG will be out ... I don't know. Maybe 4 weeks ...'

Anyway ... I don't really think it's true seeing that there is no confirmation of it but I wouldn't mind it because we need him 100%.

I'm surprised this kick to the knee didn't happen earlier really ... because it seems so likely to happen. Without a doubt I knew KG would go down again due to the knee but we just need him to be 100% for the playoffs.

I wonder if this is making anyone else a little nervous. I sheepishly bought all the lines last year about how KG was coming back, it wasn't that bad, etc. all the way into the playoffs. I'm a little more skeptical this time around about any statements being made about KG.

The way they've changed the injury diagnosis since when it first happened and how they've now twice hinted at his return date being delayed further is a bit of deja vu from a year ago. I want him healthy for the playoffs, even if that means he has to sit out every game for the rest of the regular season. I just hope we're not being jerked around again, and right now it's starting to feel like it.

I know what you're saying. After all, Pierce was only suppose to miss 1 week. It's been two.

I would not be surprised if KG sits out two more, but we need some kind of confirmation.

Well most coaches do it to keep teams from properly preparing for them, Phil plays the same card. It's a good ploy if you work it the right way to the media I guess. As far as KG, I think you guys can absorb him not playing. Don't get me wrong I know you guys would like to have him go, but long term this will work out for him and the team. I peeped your schedule and it seems like you can get through it. And what's the word on Paul? I thought he was like a week away.

I do think that in the GS game, his knee did hyper-extend quite far. I think they're telling the truth this time. I think he'll be back in around 2 weeks

Per my previous "elephant in the room" thread this is really the only concern I have for the rest of the season+playoffs. Sheed's playing, House's random ineffectiveness, Allen's aging, MD's health Rondo's shooting and a host of other things are meaningless compared to this. A healthy KG is the only way to a ring.

I'd be more worried if they were rushing these guys back.

Last year, I figured KG was done the second it happened.

Then again, I also figured was done in Game 1 of the Finals.

This is the reason Celtics got Rasheed. Getting Sheed means we retain a lot of what KG does if KG can't play. KG is better, but Sheed is an improvement over Big Baby on the defensive end and when he is in the box a tough a matchup.

Sheed and KG are the same type of player for this team. They ned KG to win it all, but Sheed out there for a portion of the regular season should be enough to allow KG to rest up like Tim Duncan does for the Spurs.

Again, this is why Sheed is here.
