MIN/OKC
Paul Allen on his show today said he heard a rumor that big AL will be traded by the deadline. With the thought that Al is most likely a very good #2 option on a contending team, what about the following?
OKC gives/MIN gets:
Jeff Green
James Harden
Matt Harpring (to make salaries work)
MIN gives/OKC gets:
Al Jefferson
Ryan Gomes
MIN-
PG: Flynn/???
SG: Hardin/Brewer
SF: Green/ Brewer
PF: Love/???
C: Hollins/???
Balances the team, and creates more cap space in 2010.
Gomes 4.235 + Jefferson 13.00 = 17.235
vs.
Harden 4.304 + Green 4.456 = 8.760
Save 10.5 million and get young talent.
OKC:
PG: Westbrook/ Maynor
SG: Sefolosha/???
SF: Durant/ Gomes
PF: Jefferson/ Gomes
C: Kristic/ Mullens
Allows OKC to get a true #2 to pair with their evolving #1 in Durant.

I don't see why we would want to move him. I'm not that high on Green, and think Al has more value than 2 unknowns at this point. Plus we shouldn't want to make a team in our division better..

Re: MIN/OKC
If the cap space is set at 53.6 million, then they will have 11.8 million to spend. That makes me wonder is that enough to simply sign Carlos Boozer?
I'm leaning towards yes, but I'm sure they're leaning towards no. I think Green is a bit overrated btw. People consider him to be a huge building block and some even act as if Durant, Westbrook, and Green are the next Big 3.

I kind of think both teams say no, but both consider it.

Re: MIN/OKC
I'm not 100% positive Harpring can be paired in with another player in a trade so soon. The past belief that you had to wait 60 days, but apparently there's something about if you're UNDER the cap you can, but I think that's the receiving team, and since we're over the salary cap, we wouldn't be able to receive Harpring in this deal.
Having said that, I'm not entirely sure I do this deal if it is possible.
We're giving a great 2nd option to a division rival that's in the young building stages, even if they are a year+ ahead of us.
And we're getting back a couple of 3rd options and more cap space. We're left with more than max cap space, likely max + MLE type money, a pretty solid supporting cast, but no 1st options willing or available to lead them. Seems like we're diluting assets again, and left with a few holes.
I have no clue who would be available, but I'd hope our goal, if trading Jefferson, would be to combine him with Gomes or picks and bring back a top level all-star type.

I'm with you on this confusion. All I can say is it worked on the trade checker. Of course that could be wrong, but it has a better chance of being correct than I do considering all the rules.

Did PA give any context of where he heard this "rumor" from?

Not really just "a guy who doesn't work for the Timberwolves, but works with the team and has provided reliable info in the past." You can listen to it in his show podcast. Its part of the section where he had Kahn on. The interview with Kahn is early in the clip and his comment is towards the end.
EDIT: Update with the link.

Hmm... looks like PA and Kahn agree with my comment last night, that no one agreed with, that we particularly struggle against perimeter oriented teams.

Based on Khan's convo it doesn't seem like he's entertaining trying to trade Jefferson at all.

He's not the type to just make up a rumor to get attention, but he's not reliable. If the Janitor told him he'd heard some Wolves employees talking about trading Jefferson, this could be the result. On the other hand, the janitor might have actually heard Kahn talking about wanting to trade Jefferson now that Pekovic is coming over and it might be legit. It's hard to say with PA.
I say no to this trade. Whether people in this thread like Jefferson or not, the NBA values him far more than Jeff Green. A 20/12 post scorer with a good contract is worth more than a Tweener SF, so we can get more value than this if we trade him.

Re: MIN/OKC
^^^Green isn't a tweener. He's playing out of position for the betterment of the team. If anything, he's versatile, and that's a positive, not a negative. Harden is no slouch either, his value should be equivalent to Green's in my opinion. Both are two way players and high level character guys. I definitely consider this deal.

Green is a tweener. He has a hard time guarding faster small forwards and has a very hard time guarding bigger PFs. He's also got the lowest +/- rating of anyone on that team (who's played 5% of their minutes anyway) and has been out-PERed by 5 points at both positions all year. He was out-PERed at both positions last year as well, which makes this a trend.
Jefferson, on the other hand, out-PERs his guy by quite a bit at both PF and C. He's a tweener too.

I'm not too sure if I'd do this or not.... I think Al Jefferson might be traded as well, my guess is to Philly for Iguodala

Green has only played 9% of his teams minutes at the SF position. So less than 5 minutes per game. As a PF, sure, he's undersized and he's going to get scored on.
I think most would agree that Jefferson, too, is playing out of position and is a natural PF.

They still have Dalemburt, Brand, and Speights. I don't think that's a good fit.skorff26 wrote:I'm not too sure if I'd do this or not.... I think Al Jefferson might be traded as well, my guess is to Philly for Iguodala

I think that's a bad guess. What would phili do with Speights, Al, and Brand? A three way is a possibility though.
