Hail To The Redskins 2.0
Just thought I'd get this one going before going to bed, and before the other thread hits the Magic 100.
Do you think Arenas overshadowed the Redskins today? I wasn't in the area, obviously, to tell.

Re: Hail To The Redskins 2.0
I find the Arenas situation far too depressing to discuss, so I'll throw in my 2 cents on a slightly less depressing topic: The NFL Draft! Its Never too early to talk about the Draft! Especially when you root for the skins. (there needs to be a "shoots self in head" smiley.)
I really hope we can get Okung with the 4th pick, but can't see it happening unless the Rams pass on Suh to draft Claussen, which would be a terrible move IMO. All signs point to the Lions taking Okung with the 2nd pick unless Suh is available.
Assuming Okung isn't available, what are our best options?
I am of the mind that it would be a huge waste to take a qb in the 1st or 2nd because of the o-line problems, and none of the other o-lineman in the draft are deemed worthy of a high 1st round pick. My preference, then, would be to either take Eric Berry with the 4th pick, or trade down to the middle of the first to take Bruce Campbell or some other O-Lineman. Also, CJ Spiller from Clemson is intriguing as a RB prospect.
Thoughts?

Re: Hail To The Redskins 2.0
some chatter about mccoy dropping to the 3rd round. that's the first qb on my board. lefevre wouldn't be a bad choice either.
but no shortage of o-linemen to draft. okung, trent williams from oklahoma, anthony davis from rutgers, or a safety - earl thomas from Texas. lets landry go back to SS where he belongs.
here's hoping mccoy has a bad game and slips further down the boards.

We don't have a 3rd rounder this year. Thank goodness we were able to turn that pick into Jeremy Jarmon. I don't know what we'd do without him.
That means if we want McCoy, we'd either have to reach for him in the 2nd, or get an extra 3rd rounder by trading down in the first. Unless its possible that he slips to the 4th.. Is that possible?

Jarmon was definitely worth a 3rd round pick, imo. Eventually, he and Orakpo are going to be great fits as a bookend combo at the DE's - Jarmon at LDE.
I'm also hoping Okung is there at 4. Picking Berry at 4 is not a bad idea, but they'd get killed with criticism for taking another safety very high. I think they'd go Clausen then, because people want a QB, and Bradford has too many questionmarks and less upside. In the 2nd round, they go for a smallish zone-blocking LT - if they don't get Okung in the first.

I hope you're right about Jarmon.. It would be nice for something to work out well.

I hope Allen and Shanahan aren't concerned about the criticism they would take for the player they like in the first. Unless that player is Bradford or Claussen.

Re: Hail To The Redskins 2.0
I think the Skins should trade down and grab a few more picks. Not sure if anyone is trading up right now, but I bet you by the time the combine rolls around, some teams are going to be more desperate for certain players.
Whatever happens we need to take a QB and an OT with our first couple picks. The fourth pick doesn't have to be that LT, as I have heard some stat that there are more undrafted lineman on Superbowl teams than high picks which goes to show you that you don't necessarily have to build a line with simply high draft picks.

Okung should be there. I'd def think he'd be there at 4. If he isn't I'd trade down and try to get Bulaga later in the 1st.

I like Hazlett... I don't love the 3-4.
Although, I guess Albert 'Butter'worth all but occupies two down lineman spots by himself, so it could fit with our personnel.
Do you all see Orakpo as a LT like edge rusher? If so, who is the other OL?
I'm not sure there is a place for Andre Carter in this system.

It was somewhat of a relief to see Suisham choke against the Vikings. Mostly because it proves again that it was a good decision to send him off.
What a terrible day for kickers - Kaeding missed 3 also and those 3 ended up being the difference.

Well, he only made 3 big points:
- RG3 is done
- Desean Jackson is not as good as advertised
- Resigning Deangelo Hall is a mistake.
I think point 1 is a coinflip and really nobody (coaching staff included) can really make a call with any certainty. RG3 certainly didn't look very good last season but how much of that was irrevocable knee jitters and how much of it was Kid Shanahan trying to force an unconventional player into a conventional qb spot? It's no secret that both Shannys wanted RG3 to be more of a pocket passer and abandoned a lot of the read option that had a lot of success. Then at the end it all really unravelled fast. Will Gruden be as inflexible, or will he be willing to be more experimental at the risk of a fragile QB taking downfield hits?
I think point 2 is overblown. Completely. Of course this isn't to say that Jackson is the citizen of the year and that the Eagles are an Orwellian empire set on squashing Jackson for whatever ulterior motive there may be. The reasoning probably just boils down to 10% Chip Kelly just not liking Jackson on a personal level, 40% that a single big play receiver is not as important in the Kelly system and doesn't warrant such a fat paycheck, and 50% that this is a LOADED wide receiver draft. Loaded like a potato, and there's a grip of guys in the first two rounds that can replicate Jackson's production at a fraction of the price.
Point 3 is spot on and has been for years. De'Angelo Hall is a scrub.
Sorry pine.
