Discussions for a trade that would’ve exchanged Eduardo Najera for Kris Humphries and Shawne Williams are “on life support,” a league source said, because the New Jersey Nets have been unable to clear a roster spot to make it happen. New Jersey had hoped the Dallas Mavericks would add some money to the deal to allow them to buy out Williams’ contract, but the Nets haven’t been able to make a roster move. They tried to trade former first-round pick Josh Boone to Denver for Joey Graham and his non-guaranteed deal as a precursor to the Dallas deal, but those talks dried up, too.

Perhaps this explains the Alston move. Perhaps they are looking to create a spot in a round about way of being able to trade their way out of remaining contracts we want to shed. This would at least make some sense as to why they didnt just try to send Alston?Najera to someone in need of a PG before the trade deadline...as there always seems to be that deal....for expiring.

Unless Lebron says I WANT TO BE A NET!!!, durant should be our target. I hope the Nets dont waste money on second tier FAs in 2010.

Durant isnt going to be much easier to get...besides us moving to a big market and the sort of draw...it wont be much easier than getting Lebron...KD is sick...would love to see him lined up with Brook and Yi w/ him at SF...

But seriously...would you be that pissed off if we could pull Boozer and Joe Johnson...something like that...

I am fine trading for Boozer now because he is an expiring contract. But I view him as a #2 guy if you want to contend. So? Trade for him and get the Jazz to clear someone we want gone...but give them less than Boozers contract this year to help them out with luxury taxes.

Summer comes...Boozer is OUR UFA. Now? We cna go after who we want with no restriction. If Boozer makes sense as a #2...great. if he doesnt...let him walk.

As for what you asked about JJ and Boozer...hell no to that! if we arent going to get an ELITE free agent this summer then rebouild in the draft over the next few years. I do not want to go from awful to .500-ish and just stay there. Lebron, Bosh, Wade....these are prime time guys worth going all out for. But settling? Rather build from the draft than do that.

I alwasy said...better to be awful than in the middle right? Well? Now I get to put my money where my mouth is. I will take this year and the top 4 pick we will get and a "chance" at Lebron+ than the last 4 years NO PROBLEM.

I am going to say it. A lot of people here in the mode of...Lebron is a pipe dream but then they come back with Durant.

Lebron is MUCH more realistic than Durant. Having said that? 50% chance he signs back with the Cavs. Give us at best 25% and then everyone else divide up the pie in small pieces.

But I contend...this team is in the best position to land a big fish or two. It will take a bit more streamlining of contracts it seems...although no one seems to be sure about Najera, Dooling, SWAT, Boone and the cap to be set in our favor. But everything we needed to happen is happening so far. All that is needed around here is patience. Something that has always been lacking. To many of you want immediate graitification. Some of these trades for medicority that would deliberately kill our chance of cap room make me want to puke. MILSAP??????? What a pile of crap that idea was.

I'm just not convinced that the Nets are thinking the way you are E...I think they would be happy with JJ and Boozer...or something similar (at least be willing to look these players, I just threw those names out there)...The Nets Front office needs to put a good team on Brooklyn's floor...I would think they want a product that is gearing to be a real contender...not a rebuilding, young potential contender...again, I would have no issues with that...

but now Johnson makes some public statements about FA...(yeh of course at his age he wants to play for a real contender...)

I'm all for getting the best possible team on the floor, whether its next year or 3-5 years from now..again, as much as I like some of the talent that will be entering the draft, I am still not convinced this is whats going to get us a championship...JJ is very underated...Ian stated he would get a max contract, I dunno about that...maybe from the Hawks, which then you can call it a done deal...

I would also agree there is a better chance of us getting Lebron than Durant...but does it matter, he's up first anyway...A lot is riding on what the Cavs do this year...they still dont look like the best team in the NBA, not that there is a clear cut #1 team anyway...(injuries, ect...)

Regardless, I have always said fans need to have patience around here...Beat the **** out of Harris all you want...call him a second tier all star point guard all you want...I'm trading him only if we get what we need...what worries me is throwing this guy away to match some salaries and putting the ball in the hands of Wall with no experience (very few can come right out of college and handle this responsibility)...call me a non-believer right now (though he is the #1 draft pick no matter what), but I wont make my decision on what I feel he can do until he completes this year at Kentucky (he's obviously headed in the right direction...)

And the fact is, Harris is not playing up to his capabilities...but I know E, you dont think he can be a pg on a championship team, right?...I'm still not convinced of that and I wont let his play so far this year dictate that...

I ask why not have them play together...is that not an option?

Return to Brooklyn Nets
