Doc needs a Minutes Guy
Doc said before the game, he was going to limit Pierce's minutes. He gets into the game and throws out the plan. Pierce played 43 minutes.
These guys are old and they need to be protected. Losing the game would not have been that big a deal. Losing Pierce in the playoffs would be huge.
KG knee is doing what? He's not in steady state here at all. His comeback has been rushed too.
We need an adult here to manage these guys wear and tear. It is not reasonable to expect Doc to remove himself from the winning the game we're playing mode.

Re: Doc needs a Minutes Guy
Doc has a whole organization behind him, don't think for a moment that he isn't completely aware of what minutes players have played in a game. If you think that an assistant or a guy with a stopwatch is going to force Doc to play Scal instead of Pierce the last 5 minutes of the Miami game or in overtime, I think you're under-estimating the authority that the head coach has to go out and win a basketball game.

Re: Doc needs a Minutes Guy
with rondo, if you have a hammy injury or any pulled muscle it's actually bad to sit for an extended time. it's better just to play so long as you're not tired. and rondo doesn't get tired, so far as i can tell.
also, there are MANY other ways to reduce wear and tear than reducing minutes. for one thing, reduce the amount of practice time. does that not count for wear and tear just because it's not televised? i don't think the body knows the difference.
paul's injury was not something that could recur by playing on it. it was an infection, and he's on antibiotics. it's not a sprained knee or something.
as for KG, he is currently averaging 30.7 mins per game. 30.7! i mean, some 6th men play more than that. i know we want to protect him blah blah but wtf, he's one of our two best players, and we're paying him big bucks to play.

In basketball terms it's old. 28-30 is when players really start to decline physically. A lot of Pierce's game is reliant on his athleticism, in getting to the basket. He's old.

Re: Doc needs a Minutes Guy
i'm more than fine playing rondo minutes
As far as the truth goes i'm iffy with because he is 32 33 it makes sense to limit his minutes but hes a super star and well we needed him for a win...scal has been at 14 plus mpg without a point in like 18 milllion games and we haven't played walker at all and marquis is hurt...so guess we have too in close games to play him... Not arguing for doc here he's made some goofy calls but all in all i see doc here for awhile guys everybody make bad calls sometimes and I love lifers and doc is one..

Pierce is 32. Not 34/35.
This reputation of him being old appears to be league wide also. Kobe is 31.

Paul doesn't have the conditioning or work ethic of Kobe. He's a lot more durable than Pierce has been because of this. Kobe also continues to add new facets to his game. You're blind if you don't think Pierce has lost a step. He's still a great player and I'd actually say his mid-range game has improved at the very least, but he's not able to get to the rim as well as he used to.

How exactly do you know that? That seems like a rather ignorant comment if you ask me. Sure, Kobe is a little more athletic and physically fit than Paul, but other than that what evidence do you have that he has a better work ethic?

^^^Paul isn't exactly BBD. He takes care of himself out there - and has a reputation as a hard worker. You don't get to the top unless you bust ass at the NBA level, IMHO. All that footwork that Paul has the reputation for - that comes from hard work. No one is born with good footwork.

Doc's an idiot, he should be resting Rondo, Ray, etc around the quarters. He's going to run them into the ground like last season if he keeps doing this sh#t.

Re: Doc needs a Minutes Guy
The point of me starting the thread was that Doc focuses on the game being played, winning the current game.
There is an incentive trap that we keep falling into. The players adreniline is up, so they feel fine. Doc is intensely focused on winning this game, not the last championship game. So he trades off the future for today's win. There's no one on a day to day basis protecting the last playoff game's chances.
So we have Pierce getting over 40 minutes on his first game after his knee inujury. Daniel's playing injured. KG brought back too fast. etc. PIerce didn't look that good last night.
Meanwhile Giddens and Walker sit.

The problem isn't that we are not playing Walker and Giddions. We simply need another guy or two who can really play. We have the starters plus Sheed, MD, House, Scal and possibly Williams who are legit NBA players. when 3 people are out that leaves 6 real players. There is the problem.

I don't get this long term strategy. We burn up our stars on games that hardly matter. And our prospects languish. Playing Walker and Giddens increaes their value. We've abandoned the strategy that got us here. We've stopped developing our prospects.
These games hardly matter. We walloped Cleveland on their home court, when we were healthy.

Re: Doc needs a Minutes Guy
Once again, on back to back nights, Paul and Ray play 42 minutes. This was a game that both these guys should have played about 34 minutes and TA would have picked up those minutes. TA played only 8 minutes and should have played about 24. With TA out there, Pierce or Ray would have been fresh and J.J. and Crawford wouldn't have gone crazy on us.
