trade w/ Toronto

Post#1 » by hairybyrd » Fri Jan 8, 2010 9:07 pm

If Colangelo feels like Bosh is gone at the end of the year, may as well trade him now. Admittedly, I haven't watched many Rockets games this year but Scola and Landry are putting up great numbers. Thoughts on this trade?

HOU gets: Bosh, Reggie Evans and Marcus Banks
TOR gets: McGrady's expiring contract, Luis Scola and Carl Landry

Bosh is nice, but we have no business acquiring two bags of garbage.

Rockets shouldn't trade both Scola and Landry

I would shoot for a Bosh for Scola, Lowry and a pick

THEN swing TMAC, Budinger and a future pick for Granger

Imagine this in the western conference finals v. the Lakers

Brooks v. Fisher (Rockets)
Ariza v. Kobe (Lakers)
Granger v. Artest (Rockets)
Landry v. Gasol (Lakers)
Bosh v. Bynum (Rockets)

Whoa, I was actually really excited when I saw the wiretap on the interest for Bosh. Then I read this thread and what is proposed here and laughed out loud literally. Oh man, I hope for the sake of both teams there's something better offered.

Reggie Evans: 3.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 44% shooting last year; injured this season; ~$10m for the next 2 years.
Marcus Banks: 4.6 ppg, 1.1 apg this season; ~$9m for the next 2 years.

That's $19m for two dumpster trucks. Not to mention that I rather take Carl Landry for $3m over Chris Bosh for $16m.

Pass.

What am I reading?

- Reggie Evans is far from garbage
- Starting Bosh and Landry would be a terrible matchup against L.A., in fact it would be a terrible defensive matchup against most teams because Bosh would be a liability at Center.
- Keep dreaming on trading T-Mac's expiring, Budinger, and a draft pick for Granger, give me a break

I think Houston could actually offer more to Toronto than a lot of teams could. The problem with doing that, is it would be a gamble because Bosh is in the last year of his contract. So I'm not sure Houston would be very willing. Most likely Houston would be unwilling to take on Banks' contract as well, a better option would be to throw in say Rasho and Wright's contracts, or a combination of one of those two and Weems or O'Bryant's contracts. If that wasn't enough for Toronto there is still the possibility of throwing in draft picks and Budinger, though I would want Weems if they were to give up Budinger. Any of those deals would normally be worthwhile probably for Bosh imo, the only problem with them is that Bosh could just bolt after this season, is it worthwhile for Houston to take that gamble?

Scola AND Landry?

Man, I don't know if I would swing that deal.

WWMD? (What Would Morey Do?)

Look at it this way, though:

With this deal the Rockets have only David Andersen (2.5), Trevor Ariza (6), Chase Budinger (1), Joey Dorsey (1), Jermaine Taylor (1), and Chris Bosh (approx. 15) on the books in 2011. That's less than $27 million committed salary in 2 years time. Let's assume HOU even re-signs Kyle Lowry, Chuck Hayes and an MLE player in that time, there's still money to offer another max. contract in 2011 (Kevin Durant is from Texas after all) then tend to the free agent group of Yao, Brooks and Battier.

Scola and Landry are really good players but with Bosh and Yao on the team, they won't be getting the minutes they deserve. Maybe the Rockets could get away w/ just trading either/or, but why not just offer both, evaluate the team with Bosh and a healthy Yao for a year, and offer another max. contract in 2011 rather than tying that money up w/ back-ups like Scola and Landry?

McGrady + Landry + Scola
for
Bosh + Amir Johnson (expiring) + Rasho Nesterovic (expiring) + Antoine Wright (expiring)
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=5373373

Rockets
F: Battier, Budinger
F: Bosh, Johnson, Cook
C: Hayes, Andersen, Dorsey, Nesterovic, Yao
G: Brooks, Lowry
G: Ariza, Wright, Taylor

Raptors
F: Turkoglu, Weems
F: Scola, Landry, Evans
C: Bargnani, O'Bryant
G: Calderon, Jack, Banks
G: McGrady, DeRozan, Belinelli
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

^^^ Not sure about that trade. Its basically Bosh for Scola and Landry. Neither Scola or Landry is better individually but together production and contract wise Scola and Landry > Bosh.

I like it but TOR doesn't get any peices to rebuild with.

I like the trade scenarios involving Reggie Evans better than one for just Bosh and expirings. The Rockets will need another big man if they were to ditch both Landry and Scola, and good big men are too expensive to come by most of the time. But with Evans they would get a quality defender and offensive rebounder who sets good screens and always plays hard. It seems an even bigger risk without Evans though, that leaves the Rockets frontline with only Bosh(who potentially could bolt), Chuck Hayes, David Anderson(don't think he's ready for more minutes), and Joey Dorsey(a complete unknown at this point). I don't like it.
