They are pretty comparable players as Rondo is a better defender and passer Parker a better scorer and shooter. But Parker playing at his career avg of 16/3/6 is kind of a disappointment most of it has to do with increased TO's though. I would say all around Parker is the most accurate barometer.

I don't think I'm misinterpreting the salary difference. Rondo makes 9 million next year. Parker will make 13.5 million.

Let's check it out.
Doing the math:
Parker 13.5 million
Rondo 9.0 mllion

13.5 -9 = 4.5

It's official! Parker will be paid 4.5 million more than Rondo next year, meaning it is ok to say he's paid more.

The point is the contracts had the same value per year.

I realize this, but it's irrelevant.

Parker will make 4.5 more next year then he'll re-sign and make just as much more in the coming years.

He makes more than Rondo.

Thank you for stating the obvious? It's just that Parker is older, Rondo will get to that point as well.

The point in context was that it was stated: Rondo will negatively effect the Celtics cap because his salary was so high, and that he's overpaid compared with other point guards.

The truth is he's paid about right in comparison with other points.

Getting back to that, yes Parker is paid more than Rondo. Whether Rondo will get paid more later is another tangent and is taking the conversation someplace else.

Sheesh.

He is the guy who is reproducing his postseason. He has improved his scoring by a 3rd and leads the team in rebounds and the league in FG% while being a dominant defensive big man. So we hand Rondo 55 mil a year early at the easiest position to fill in the league what do you do with Perk who has already been the best bargain in the game the last few years at the hardest position to fill. What center would you trade Kendrick Perkins for right now? At any price.

I love these two guys and want them in Boston till they hang their jerseys in the rafters they epitomize the best parts of the game. I am just worried about them collecting 25 mil a season and scoring a combined 25 a game and Ainge trying to fill out a line up that can win a championship around them. I just think of the Paul Silas' Charlotte Hornets they would win 55 games but they never had the guy that could get them through a playoff series because they had this collection of terrific role players.

I vehemently disagree with the whole "PG is easiest position to fill in the league". If you are talking about finding an undersized shooting guard to plug in at the two, fine. But as far as finding a quality pure point guard like a Rondo, they are pretty hard to come by. At least that has been my observation since I began watching the Celtics in 92-93. I have seen the Celtics go through Sherman Douglas (good playmaker but extremely suspect jumpshooter and poor defender), Dana Barros (an extremely undersized shooting guard), David Wesley (probably the best of the bunch, but still a 1/2 hybrid at best), Kenny Anderson, a Chauncy Billups that was probably five years away from being a quality starting PG, Tony Delk, Mike James, etc. All those players ranged from below average to maybe slightly above average, but none of them were ever a threat to make an all-star team. To lock up a player like Rondo, who most people agree is a borderline all-star at the age of 23, I think that is worth 10+ a season.

Same logic with Perkins, although I think we are on the same page there. While I agree that paying 10+ annual seems like a little bit much, to have two borderline all-stars locked up for the next 5-6 years at two notoriously difficult to fill positions, I think you do that everytime.

You have to keep in mind some of these Rondo haters actually believe Mike Conley or Mike Bibby are good enough to make this team a champion.

Point guard becomes less important when you have one clearly dominant offensive player but this Celtics team does not and will not have that now or anytime in the future. This is a team predicated on balance and to make that happen a point guard is the most important asset.
