Lowpost scoring
I really think lack of low post scoring is playing a part in these recent losses. Like we saw tonight we are up 18 to GS and we are still taking 3's and that let them right back in the game. We need a low post scorer. Spencer is very inconsistent and thats no secret. While JT does not get many touches on the block at all. I know everyone is pushing for a defensive center which I agree with but I feel we need a low post scorer just as much. Can JT or spencer be a reliable option down low when our outside shooting goes cold?

Re: Lowpost scoring
I think we actually force the ball into the post too much for my taste. As you allude to, we don't really have that many options in the post as is. Exploiting a matchup here and there is nice and all, but can't be done consistently or be the type of thing you rely on all the time. I think this team needs to exploit the abilities it does have. We have bigs that can shoot and a PG that owns the paint. Hmmmm.....what's the problem again???

Re: Lowpost scoring
Simple solution. Trade for Bosh & resign him. Done deal friends
Seriously tho, I don't think they go down to Spence enough. He had two great post moves yesterday, and was 5-8 in 15 minutes. I think they need to mix up going to Spence and let him pass from the low post ala Vlade. He doesn't always need to make a move, but we can pass it around from there to keep the defense off balance. As we saw yesterday, when all you have to do is double and triple Tyreke the offense stagnates, and it becomes forced.

Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.
That just happened.

Re: Lowpost scoring
When we drafted spencer i expected great low post moves because thats what he did at washington. Like you said he had some nice move last night and he can be good down there but he forces just as many shots as he makes. JT has shown some strides he even has been hitting that fadaway jumper somewhat consistently.
Oh and Bosh would be perfect.

I think Jason needs more touches and more shots. He also needs to be more aggressive getting himself in position near the basket. He's always going to be more of a finesse and perimeter oriented forward, but he has a big enough frame to be more physical and expand his post game. I'm sick of watching him not finish near the basket. Both he and Hawes need to be better finishers. Hawes has his moments but is altogether too inconsistent. JT, on the other hand, gets a lot of minutes and I'd like to see more from him on the offensive end. I think Martin coming back will improve JT's numbers offensively, actually.

I have been thinking the same thing but I think at the end of the pheonix game he threw down a dunk rather then one of his little floaters and one of the coaches must have talked to him about it because to start off against GS he tried to dunk but turiaf blocked it but the next time he had a chance he threw one down. I really think he might have realized that he is explosive enough and athletic enough to dunk it whenever he has the chance. I hope thats the case because he misses a lot of easy baskets when he's around the rim and just throws it up there.

Re: Lowpost scoring
Spencer isn't a great fit in that he's a very poor finisher around the basket. He's good in the post when his back is to the basket--we just almost never get to see this partly because of Westphal's strategies, and because of how he fits with Tyreke.

Yeah, sometimes he decides to throw them down which tells me his is capable of being a consistent finisher. All in all, I'd like to see more shots for Thompson and hopefully he can work on his offensive game.
Bosh is a complete pipe dream. We can't afford him and he wouldn't want to come here (or resign here if you want a trade) if he could instead play in New York, Miami, Chicago, etc.

Re: Lowpost scoring
Spencer is showing flashes of his quite developed FINESSE post game tonight. Instead of trying to out muscle his defender he's faking one way and taking it back with a fadeaway jumper or overhead shot. Now THIS is the post game I want to see from Spencer.

Sure, but he has to actually get the ball in the post more often.

Re: Lowpost scoring
I like Westphal he brings a very good coach. But right now they were better last year getting the ball to the big guys. Westphal really quits on his big men really quickly. I remember a game last year where JT was 1-7 then they went to him still in the second half and he was huge in the second half. Right now there is no trust in the big men when they struggle at all. Evans also makes them take way too many jumpers and are out of position for rebounding.Brockman grabs more rebounds because he isn't allowed to take shots.
Although he has started to get some to the bigs around the basket, it still going to get bigs time to learn what they need to do. It takes time. Remember MJ didn't win his 1st title until his 5th season after 3 in college. Most of this team is really young. Having a special player helps but having a great supporting cast like the Kings are building will help them line up a few years dwon the road.
Keep trusting your big guys. Remember Lebron used to shoot every shot himself and rarely trust big Z late now Lebron passes to him for 3pointers in OT. The trust will come around the bigs just have to keep working.

As I have said before -
Regardless of how well we end up THIS season, the work is going towards our ascendency for the next DECADE. We have finally managed to luck into a truly great wing player who CAN carry a team when it is "winnin' time". Now we have to be patient over the next 2-3 years as the young players develop and the final pieces are put into place to be - like the Spurs have been for the past decade - a perennial championship contender.

He DOES NOT have chemistry with Tyreke Evans. Reke falls short of ignoring him on the floor.
KANGZZZZZ!
