2010 Lion Coaches.

Post#1 » by Piston Pete » Mon Jan 4, 2010 3:39 pm

With the other 2010 threads, (2010 free agents, draft) I thought we'd also need one for Lions coaches/coordinators for 2010. I would be extremely surprised if Schwartz returned even HALF of his current staff.

We can use this thread to update Lions coaching/coordinator firings and new hires...

Idk enough about available coordinators and all that to have an opinion. I just know that we need a new defensive coordinator cuz the one that we have is a blazing idiot.

Stan Kwan has been our special team coach for 10 years. That is 9 years too many. He really needs to be let go.

Worst. Coach. Ever.

Our special teams continuously miss tackles and never provide good field position. Having two of the best kickers in the league in Hanson and Harris is the only reason i can think of for not canning him sooner

I'd give (OC) Linehan and (DC) Cunningham a second year to get more guys that fit into what they want to do and because they've dealt with ALOT of injuries. They've had great success with other teams which lends me to believe that they could pull it together.

But I have no excuses for Kwan. 10 years. He's god awful.

Stan Kwan has always been incompetent.

I'm not sure what Gunther's problems are, I 'd love to sit down with the guy and hear his excuses for some of the elementary breakdowns. He seems to have a weak ability at getting players to do simple things, or he doesn't understand the simple things of a defense. The film speaks to me and it says that Gunther doesn't understand where players should stand, where they should look, and where they should be going in many situations.

Other than that, it's pretty hard to evaluate coaches, as the best way is to really study the film and have an interaction with that coach so you can understand where the faults may lie. Oh and Linehan needs to go, he did a lousy job with his playcalling and got very little out of his players. I'm willing to bet he likes Culpepper and supports him, and anybody that supported Culpepper is not somebody that I want anywhere near company property.

ST Coach Stan Kwam was fired Friday!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOT!! Kevin Seifert from ESPN.com thinks the Lions might contact Bobby April for the position. I'm all for it.

Who's Bobby April? And good job to whoever called it. I honestly thing Cribbs could be a possibility now. It's not like he's asking for huge money. 3 million a year should do it.

Cribbs isn't a FA, I think he's signed through 2012. You have to trade something to get him in addition to the money.

Bobby April was the special teams coach for the Bills who just found a loophole out of his contract in Buffalo. He's widely considered one of the best ST coaches in the league. We'd probably have to shell out a nice contract but he'd be worth it.

It'd be a very good move for the team, but he'd still have to agree to come here.

I'm just happy Kwan is finally gone. WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
