Sadly, it has started. I saw some needs recipes in the post-game thread but let's start sorting things out. I think our draft position is now set.

I think our needs in order are:

1. Left Tackle (As I think Lang can play RT at a high level). Rodgers is an absolute stud and we need to protect him.
2. Corner. We may be able to get by next year with Woodson/Harris/Williams if Harris can come back and be an average/good player... But Woodson/Harris are getting older and we need to get some talent at that position.
3. Safety. The players behind Bigby/Collins are really bad, we need to get some depth.
4. OLB. Pressuring the QB (in my opinion) is the most important thing in football. Matthews is a stud, but he needs some help. Hopefully Jones can get better and we can get additional help.
5. RB/Return man WR. This offense would be even more ridiculous with a great 3rd down back to catch out of the backfield and our special teams could use a boost.

My personal list of needs and in order or priority:

OL
DB
LB
Safety

That is really all that I see as glaring needs. We can use depth at plenty of positions but who can't. My faith in TT to find some good picks is pretty high at this point and I can't remember being this excited for a draft in a long time and its still months away.

It would be nice if Jackson could finally become the 3rd down back we need.

I'd say OT and OLB are our first needs. Whichever player ranked higher at one of those positions is fine by me with our first pick. You'd obviously love to have a top notch LT fall that far, but we are more likely to have a 3-4 OLB on the board at that point.

eh I'm a raptors fan but yeah.. they will meet some sort of tragic demise later on in the season also

Hopefully Pat Lee can get healthy and bring something to the table. Blackmon and Harris coming back will be nice too but we need more DB deprth.

An OLine starter and depth is needed.

A defensive playmaker in the front 7.

Punter and kicker.

Kick and Punt returner.

-Two middle to upper tier starting OLineman
-One beastly DE
-An athletic RB who can catch the ball out of the backfield and go with it.
-Good CB
-Kicker
-Punter

Use all three methods to acquire those guys. Draft, Trade, FA.

We don't need a DE, we need an OLB. DE's are just supposed to take up space in the 3-4. Not be playmakers.

I can go back to the Fritz Shurmur 4-3 but I realize that is in the past.

You do good reference work. Who were the Super Bowl champions that used the 3-4? And who were the DE's on those teams? I don't know the answer, but I'm thinking that those teams had a stud at one of the ends.

^^^The Patriots had Richard Seymore, the Steelers had Aaron Smith...I can't think of any more.

I would love it if we got a speedster RB to be a 3rd down scat back and return man. Somebody like Darren Sproles or Jerious Norwood. Obviously the Oline is the biggest need. I wouldn't mind if we spent our first 3 picks in the draft on the Oline, that's how bad we were this season.

We also need depth at corner, not only for injuries but because CWood and Harris are getting old (even though we said that last year too and look what CWood's old legs did this year).

I agree that we need another playmaker in the front 7. Isn't that what we wasted a number 5 pick on AJ Hawk for? damnit...

Steelers and Patriots have used the 3-4 for years.

Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl last year with Casey Hampton at nose tackle and Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel on the end.

Their linebackers were James Harrison, LaMarr Woodley, James Farrior and Larry Foote.

They won the Super Bowl a couple years before that. Hampton and Smith were the same, Kimo von Oelhoffen was the other end.

Farrior and Foote were the same and the other two linebackers were Joey Porter and Clark Haggans.

Nose tackle for the Patriots were Vince Wilfork and Keith Traylor, ends were Richard Seymour and Ty Warren. Linebackers were Ted Johnson, Willy McGinest, Tedy Bruschi and Mike Vrabel.

Super Bowl before that one was Ted Washington at NT, Seymour and Bobby Hamilton on the ends. Only change at linebacker was Roman Phifer for Ted Johnson.

What standout DE did they have? And before you say Smith or Seymour, Smith has averaged less than three tackles per game in his career with 7 forced fumbles and 1 INT in 150 career games and Seymour has averaged a little over three tackles with 4 forced fumbles and 2 INT's in his career.

Linebackers make plays in the 3-4, not the D-Line.

Also, here's a quote from Joe Collier, architect of the Broncos 3-4 Orange Crush Defense in the 70s.

You can play the 3-4 without having superstars, so to speak, in the defensive line.

Lyle Alzado, the DE for the Orange Crush was defensive player of the year the season the Broncos made it to the Super Bowl.

I don't disagree we need linebacking help also, but I think we need an true pro-bowler on the D-line. You guys can form your team without one. I'll use my assets to try and get one (not that it is easy)

OL- need to fill a few holes
DL-can never have too many lineman
CB-woodson isn't getting any younger and will probably move to safety in 2 yrs and you dont know about harris.
LB- Can we please replace Hawk? Barnett I was not impressed with. I say move Barnett to OLB and get a new MLB
SS and FS- need depth
RB- Grant and ?..... IDK about jackson, possibly draft a RB
TE: Donald Lee can't catch the ball period. Need a backup to Finley.
