Khan Kahlling the Big Al trade rumor BS?

Post#1 » by Calinks » Mon Jan 11, 2010 7:04 pm

It seems that Khan has shot this rumor down. Could he be trying to cover up or do you think he is telling the truth?

“As I’ve said publicly,” Kahn told ESPN.com, “I have no intention of trading any of our core players this season.”

No such discussions have taken place according to Kahn, who said Monday: “I spoke to [Pacers president] Larry Bird in person Friday in between our shootarounds for 20 minutes and neither player’s name was ever mentioned.”

If he isn't admitting he talked about Al for Granger, then we know he is covering stuff up, because he initiated the Al for Granger talks...

Has anyone listened to the NBA Today podcast that came out the 8th? It has about a 10 minute Kahn interview that's pretty good. If not you should check it out. The quotes you have Calinks sound like direct quotes from the interview.

Kahn so far has been a pretty straight shooter. He has said he is willing to trade anybody but he also said he's not looking to trade Al or Love anytime soon. He could be lying but I like to think he wouldn't just flat out lie or misguide the fans like that.

I don't really think he would actively seek to trade Al unless Al wanted out or something either. Some of these deals floating around for Al are... less than desirable to me.

PeeDee already posted this:

But, if you want to take Kahn at his word in that interview, then he just said they didn't discuss Al and Granger. Maybe they talked about Sessions for Hibbert.

I was a fan of letting Love and Jefferson play the entire season together, but I feel it has already become a failed experiment. I feel one of them will be traded, and IMO, Al Jefferson will be the playe most likely to go. A team pushing for the playoffs may throw out a pretty good offer for Al.
Flip response to Love wanting out, "He has no reason to be upset, you're either a part of the problem or a part of the solution"

With the offseason approaching I can't see any team making a serious offer for Al's long term salary now. They will call us once the big name FA's have resigned with their current teams.

I don't get the rush/craze to trade Al in the first place. Even if an eventual trade does go down I don't know why it has to be now. This seems like a poor time for us to make such a trade unless we are getting back something grand.

Yes. Plenty of time left before our roster has to be set.

I think the best thing to do is wait with Al. Rambis has made progress with him already improving his help defense and passing. Rambis was supposedly a huge part in helping Bynum who looks much worse without him. I'm thinking if we trade Al it should be in the offseason for either a player that is better than him(us packaging assests) or in a sign and trade with somebody to net us a nice player/and young players.

Exactly. This a 20 and 12 player we are talking about who we are already seeing make progress and he's just coming off a major injury. I mean his value will be even hire a year from now if we still want to trade him. whats the rush?

It seems like you guys assume GMs are as stupid as fans. Do you think if Kahn calls other teams they say things like "He will never get any better than he is today" "He is injury prone" "We could have got Z-Bo from the Knicks for nothing a few years ago" ?? They know how good Al is. They know he came back early from an injury.

I agree with the first part. Kahn typically doesn't say things that would leave the fan base with impression that they've been deceived.
That being said, where there's smoke there's usually fire. You've got 2 or 3 different sources now saying that Al could be moved.
