Well you need a defensive anchor to win a title. I don't think that's even really debatable. Bigs are just infinitely more important to a team's D.
I don't think one of them necessarily has to go. Kevin really can be an above average defender, and I still believe Spencer can be down the line as well. He isn't right now, but he shows some signs of being a decent anchor, if not a great one.
Why are some people here so eager to blow up the Kings?

Well, when I say one has to go, I don't mean one of them has to leave the team 100%. If we can sign/draft one then that's fine as well lol.
But I disagree about Hawes ever being an anchor. His body just simply isn't built for it currently. Can he potentially bulk up and be one...ya...maybe. But is it likely? In all honestly, probably not.
I think Thompson is a good defensive player at best. Meaning, he can hold his own, but I don't see him being able to pick up other players slack as well (like a KG/Dwight can). And unless we obtain a better defensive SG, we will need a very strong defensive center (or PF). But regardless, we need more defense.

I don't think Spencer needs to bulk up to be an anchor--at least in the way I mean it. Being an anchor is basically about shotblocking. You don't really need to be particularly strong to block/change shots. Spencer will need to be stronger if he is going to be a better individual post defender, but that's a different story.
Ultimately though, you need a defensive big that can pick up teammates' slack--no matter what. Perimeter D is just too impossible otherwise in today's NBA.

True, fair enough. I guess we just have different ideas of what an anchor should be. We both agree on the shot blocking, but I also feel that your anchor should be a good man to man defender and help defender as well.
Awesome, in the end we've concluded we need more defense lol
