OT- Kiffin hired at USC, Dr. Buss pays for his buyout

Post#1 » by daddyfivestar » Sat Jan 9, 2010 6:52 pm

I have to think the isht is going to hit the fan on all the off-field, illegal recruiting stuff and Pete is bailing out before the hammer comes from the NCAA.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm hearing from some colleagues who cover college football. I think the Reggie Bush investigation is about to finish up. The fallout's probably going to be pretty ugly.

Damn, USC without Pete Carroll is like the Jazz without Malone. Nonetheless, if they can land Riley from OSU, he'd be a great consolation prize. Take this from an Oregon fan who keeps up with OSU, considering what he's done with the limited talent he's recruited, he'll be great in USC.

Has to be pretty bad what's coming. Between the Mayo stuff and Bush they are probably cracking down on the whole system. I don't think Pete would have ever left otherwise, best job in college football. He's like a rockstar in LA, no pro team to compete with... Hopefully the program won't take too long to recover...

pretty much a done deal that he's going to seattle. it wasn't really something where he was contemplating different teams.

This is the F'up part about college sports, the coaches cheat, lie and deceive to win at all cost then when the crap catches up to them they bell the hell out and the young guys are punished with some bull crap that happened before they even got there. The coaches are never penalized and technically nothing can be done to them anyway.

That's why I laughed when some NCAA investigator told Tim Floyd to hire a lawyer........for what ? There's nothing you can do to him, Reggie or OJ. The NCAA is a joke. Anybody remember that Tractor Traylor Michigan stuff with the booster that had been kicking down the ball players for years? When dude died that whole thing was never talked about again.

The only ones that face the punishment is the guys left in the program, and if they transfer they gotta sit a year that's BS. And you wonder why there isn't any star power in college basketball this is why.

BTW to my main mang Tony Montana..........the Raiders won't be right until the old man is dressed clean from head to toe, sorry bruh ! That's just the plain ole truth.

I alwyas thought that if the NFL does an expansion team in LA that is when Pete Carroll would leave USC. I will really miss him and watching his brand of football and not to mention all the wonderful things he does for our community. Did anyone else see him on 60 minutes... not many old white guys w/ 50 million dollars would go to the hood to help..., AMAZING

If LA got a team and drafted the USC players that graduated for 3 years they would eventually win more Super Bowls than the Steelers in just a few decades. THIS IS MY DREAM. PLEASE NFL, PLEASE LA, MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Last article I read mentioned either the Jags or Bills as serious candidates to move to LA, even though I'm an SC fan I'd be cool with the LA Jags starring former Bruin Maurice Jones-Drew. :D
Thank you, Phil.

Pete is a good guy. He's leaving because it's the Athletic Director who's allow the crooked stuff and he have issues, because his staff was depleted by the Huskies and NFL, and because the school is probably in a rough spot due to the infractions.

Oh and by the way as a lifelong Seahawks fan, I am stoked. My favorite college coach is now my favorite pro teams coach. and two things before they come up: He's not a college coach gone pro, he's an NFL defensive guru with a winning NFL record and he's never lead a defense that wasn't top 10 as a coach or Defensive Coordinator.

Your right brah... I agree with you a 100%. He has destroyed this franchise in the past decade. Nobody wants to play for him and nobody wants to coach for him. Thats why a year ago I posted that thread "I am disowning the Raiders".

The coaches convince players to come, but they aren't the money-men who can throw around gifts etc... That's mainly the boosters...

I think the guys above nailed it... It's just the right time to get out... Bush and Mayo are going to require some sort of punishment. Depleted staff... Stock probably not going to be higher.

I also think Sanchez leaving was kind of an eye-opener for Pete... He seems to be a guy that is really in it for the game and winning... It's hard to do that when most players look at USC as just a stepping stone to the Pros... Sure, you always have top talent, but the all leave as soon as the bigs show any kind of interest. No matter what they've said to the Coach and team... It's the name of the game but it's got to be a drag to have to train new Quarterbacks, running backs, and receivers every couple of years. It's like, win a champinship or play in the game and they're all gone and you're left figuring out how to make it work for the next season.

That's not an issue in the NFL...

We'll see how he deals with professional atheletes though... He doesn't exactly have a sparkling record there.

He should have went to the 9ers a few years ago when he had a chance and traded up in the draft so he could have drafted Matt L, Bush & White and kept that group together. And then traded for his old players... WOW....WOW

Pete belongs in Cali!!!

I hope to hell he doesn't retire, still under contract thru 2011... As for Leinart we'd take a 1st round pick like whoa.

Carson was always his favorite QB of all the QBs in the NFL that came from Arizona.

You have to love how White says he wants to play for Carroll.

Not only Lane Kiffin.

Superstud Coordinators Monte Kiffin on D and Norm Chow on O.
Plus superrecruiter Ed Ogeron. Dream Team.

Mike Garrett may have pulled it off.

so, the one and only Dr. Jerry Buss paid off Lane Kiffin's buyout so he could leave Tennessee.

http://usc.freedomblogging.com/2010/01/ ... out/29927/

Lakers owner Jerry Buss, a USC alum, paid Lane Kiffin’s $800,000 buyout from Tennessee, according to the Heisman Pundit Web site.

By the way the Pundit, a well-established blogger, is not at all in favor of Kiffin’s hiring. The headline of his analysis: “USC COMMITS SUICIDE.”
