BA Blue Jays Top 10 up, already obsolete

BA apparently updated the list in their print edition to reflect player movement. The revised list:

5. Travis D'Arnaud, C

7. David Cooper, 1B

Somewhat surprised that they have Arencibia above D'Arnaud, but that could be largely a product of the fact that he's more of a known quantity.

The age does leave me wondering how Roenicke can be considered a top prospect, but his minor league peripherals are pretty sexy...6 HRs allowed in 159 IP (though he gave up two with the Jays in 17.7 IP), K/9 of nearly 11, a BB/9 rate that has declined each year and good action on a very big fastball.

I guess he makes it because he has a higher likelihood of ML success, and a slightly higher ceiling than a LOOGY like Timbelina...the consensus is that he's an above-average closer if he can even display mediocre control

Farquar and Collins have just as impressive strikeout numbers and they're not 27 who had a chance to fail in the big leagues. Farquar is around 11K/9 and Collins is around 13K/9. They both also have very good HR numbers, 2HR/95 and 6HR/151 respectively. They both walk a lot of guys but they're so young and they are bound to improve on the BB/9 numbers.

Roenicke has only 34 IP in the bigs, which isn't exactly enough to declare him a failure. And while I expect Farquhar's control to improve somewhat, hitters also become more patient as they work their way through the minors, so it's not a sure thing that his BB/9 numbers will improve dramatically...I like him more than Roenicke as well, but it isn't a fait accompli.

Think they consider anyone that falls within the rookie status prospect - ie less than 150 IP? Either way, some really hot numbers in AAA last year

I got my copy of BA's prospect handbook today and they did not change the list.

The date mentioned in the book is all transactions through December 13th are included, so just missed it.
