The Official Hindsight and Masochism Thread (DJ Blair, etc)
Did anyone catch the SA vs OK game last night. Duncan was out and D. Blair filled in and posted 28 pts and 21 boards in the win...He completely dominated in the paint both offensively and defensively and he's only 6'7"....How the heck did we pass on him?? This guy can just flat out play physical ball in the post...Can we offer Jamison, Blatche, Stevenson, and James for Blair and Roger Mason back....lol....i'd do that in a heartbeat...Another reason why Grunfeld needs to get canned after this year....

all though this should be locked, I have not been a fan of Ernie at all. I almost vomited when we sold that pick with both d. blair and d. summers available.

I don't know guys, considering that multiple people post in multiple threads every time Blair has a decent game, maybe he should have his own thread.

Not to mention nearly every single team board has a similar "we should've drafted DeJuan Blair" thread.MJG wrote:I don't know guys, considering that multiple people post in multiple threads every time Blair has a decent game, maybe he should have his own thread.

Re: Passing on DeJuan Blair...
Ernie Grunfeld is the worst GM in PRO sports right now. Ive never seen 1 guy singlehandley destroy a franchise like Ernie has done. This will be his last job in the NBA no doubt

Re: Passing on DeJuan Blair...
The thing is, a lot of other people passed on him too. I had Blair slotted to go in the late 1st round. Of course it bewilders me as to why we didn't pick him, but you have to keep in mind that many others did too. Maybe we thought he wouldn't make the roster or that we needed a veteran presence on the front court coming off the bench with losing Songaila.
I think it was a mistake not to pick him because I always feel you should pick the best talent available in the 2nd round but I do think they had a reason.

For guys like me and CCJ, its especially hard not to yell it out everytime Blair plays well.
Thing is, there's no 'hindsight is 20/20' type deal here. We knew. Alot of us knew. CCJ said the Wizards would be better off if we drafted Blair at 5! He was right. I had Blair rated as a top 10 pick before the draft.
Hell, nearly half the board was screaming for it.
I guess some would tell you we passed on Blair b/c of his bad knees. Or that's the story that some EG apologists gave. But then, we use the money saved from trading the pick to signed a washed up Fabricio Oberto, a guy coming off heart surgery!
But according to EG there was no one available in the draft that could help our veteran ball club.

So many teams passed on the guy but only time will tell if his knees become an issue or if he'll be a Danny Granger level steal... Given how poorly T-Will has played I know I wouldn't mind me some D-Blair right now... Oh well no GM gets all their draft picks right...

I dunno. At this point, considering everything that's happened with the team, I'd say don't lock the thread. Just change the title to "The DeJuan Blair Shrine".

Yet another reason San Antonio has the best management (and organization) in the NBA.
While we....have Fabricio Oberto.

The original would have been locked, but it was changed to a topic about us passing up Blair.
Don't get so worked up. It's just a message board. Go with the flow and enjoy yourself.

Rename it The Official Hindsight and Masochism Thread (DJ Blair, etc) so we can have a place to go whenever we want to stab ourselves in the eye with a spork. Sigh.

Re: The Official Hindsight and Masochism Thread (DJ Blair, etc)
Popovich's quotes about Blair are great. Keeps saying he has no idea how Blair does it, but he's going to keep putting him out there.
Here's the thing that's really crazy about that game. The Spurs' starting lineup was Parker-Mason-Bogans-Jefferson-Blair. That's right, 3 guards, a SF and Blair at C. The Spurs outrebounded OKC by 5. Blair had 10 offensive boards and 11 defensive. And he played just 31 minutes.

Re: The Official Hindsight and Masochism Thread (DJ Blair, etc)
It's true that many teams passed on Blair, but the Wizards had specific needs and circumstances: they traded away their 1st round pick, possibly making the fresh blood from their second that much more important; they traded away three C/PFs in that same trade and were thus thin at the bigs; it was no secret that Wizards weaknesses were rebounding and interior toughness. Sure, there were questions about Blair's knees, but considering the Wizards needs and the likely cost of second rounder, the relatively small risk to try Blair and see if he was the answer would have been worth it, and the Wizards had more reason than most other teams to take that risk.
