Eric Gordon to be in "Slam Dunk-In" against DeRozan

Post#1 » by jflipclip » Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:16 am

NEW YORK -- Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan and Clippers guard Eric Gordon will compete in the All-Star Slam Dunk-In competition at halftime of the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge on Friday, Feb. 12. The winner will advance to the All-Star Saturday Night Sprite Slam Dunk event.

DeRozan and Gordon will each get two dunks in the one-round dunk-in, with the player receiving the highest percentage of fan votes via NBA.com and SMS text messaging advancing to the dunk contest on All-Star Saturday.

Taking the fourth and final spot in the event, the dunk-in winner will then compete against three other dunk contestants for the 2010 Sprite Slam Dunk title. The NBA has yet to announce the other dunkers. The Knicks' Nate Robinson won the contest in 2009.

DeRozan is a rookie forward from USC, averaging 7.8 ppg with Toronto. He was drafted ninth in the 2009 Draft. He created a Web site, LetDeMarDunk.com, to promote his candidacy.

Gordon is in his second NBA season out of Indiana, averaging 17.1 ppg with the Clippers this season after being selected seventh overall in 2008.

Odd choice to pick who goes against DeRozan. I know Gordon has some ups, but creativity? I guess we'll see about it. =D

I'm glad that Gordon was able to be voted in. I haven't seen much creativity in terms of his dunks, but let's see what he's got. I do think DeRozen will win though, but nonetheless it's cool to have a Clipper participate in something during all star weekend.

Raptors fans will vote for Derozen in masses. EJ has no chance, but it will be fun to see his creative side.

Yeah, I think the consensus is that DeRozan will advance, but it will be fun to see what Gordon can do. From what I've seen of DeRozan, I actually thought he would've been a shoe-in for the dunk contest, but I guess not. I actually would like to see Russell Westbrook. That guy is nuts.

I'm surprised as well since EJ has never seemed like the flashy type. Glad to see he's in some sort of event though. He should have been in the 3 pt contest instead.

I'm glad to see EJ rep us on All-Star Saturday night (in addition to the rookie challenge). Like most have said, we haven't seen the creativity from him that it takes to win a dunk contest. I'm hoping that he will surprise a lot of people and pull out the upset.

I'd like to see what Air Novie could do in the 3 point contest. Although, he hasn't done much this year with the lack of playing time.

Hmm, I don't know if EJ has a chance. However, I would have liked to see him in the 3-point contest. Definitely not in a free throw contest, though.

Get ready for the All-Star Dunk-In!

I have a chance to be in NBA All-Star Dunk-In contest and compete against DeMar DeRozan. The league contacted my agent (Rob Pelinka) and I thought it would be something different for me and an opportunity, so why not do it?

I had a little bit of hesitation at first, but not too much. I know we have a whole bunch of games before the All-Star break and hopefully I'll be playing in the Rookie Challenge. I definitely plan on being in that, so the dunk contest is something I wanted try.

It's definitely cool to be part of All-Star weekend in any way. It was fun to be part of it last year as a rookie. This is my last year to be part of the rookie-sophomore game and hopefully I'll be able to play in several All-Star Games in my career.

I don’t know what I'm going to do just yet. Some people don't think I can really jump or I'm that much of a dunker. I'm going to pull out something. I'm going to use these next few weeks to get with family and friends and my teammates to get a lot of ideas. I'll figure out what I'm capable of doing. It'll be a learning experience.

I honestly think DeRozan will win rather convincingly. That dude can throw down the ball.

So even Gordon is surprised to be in it? Is this some kind of sick joke by the league so we can watching hoping he doesn't come down wrong like Blake?

I'd like to see Air Novie in the Slam Dunk contest with some of the dunks he was throwing down in Warm ups last night! LOL. No but really, good luck EJ, even though he'll be the underdog against DeMar. I also would love to see Novak in the 3-point contest. He could easily win that competition.

Air COMP10 or Eric Gordon?

Post#17 » by MidKnight » Sat Jan 16, 2010 9:23 pm

Congratulations on having a Laker already invited to compete in the dunk contest but who do you believe is going to be the final participant? Derozan or Eric Gordon? It seems the majority beleive that DD will win it but i'm trying to gain perspective and who better than to hear from his hometown fans. Does Derozan have it in the bag or are people overrating Derozans dunking ability; as a Raps fan I'm plenty satisfied with his dunking ability up to now but I've only seen his in-game dunks.

Thanks for clearing that up. It turns out the guy was suspended anyway. So this thread has been merged. When his suspension ends, he can always come back review this thread if he desires.

There is no way Derozan will lose this dunk in, first of all he is a way better dunker than eric gordon and second of all there is WAY MORE Raptors fans than Clippers fans.
