Yahoo: Wolves offerd Al Jefferson for Granger

Post#1 » by Scoot McGroot » Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:51 am

As the wiretap is now reporting via Yahoo, the Timberwolves offered Al Jefferson for Danny Granger, but were apparently rebuffed by Bird.

According to league sources cited in the article, Bird is open to trading anyone except Granger and Hibbert.

Anybody surprised by this? No? Haha...didn't think so...

I'm not sure why they even offered it. Talent-wise it's close, but it's about as one-sided as they come considering roster makeup.

Apparently they think Jefferson is not meshing well with Love. I like Jefferson but it's really tough to trade a Danny Granger for anybody unless it's a no brainer. I'm not sure Jefferson does us any good that Danny can's do. I think I'll stick with Granger.

In my opinion, this trade is about as one sided as us offering up Granger for say, Lebron, Kobe, or Wade.

I'd rather have Granger. The league has turned into more of a perimeter man's game, and Granger while not among the true elite, is still among the small top of the league. Plus, he's proved he can be a leader, whereas the jury is out on Al Jefferson.

No surprise here. All in all Granger is the better all around player. The fact that the position exchange makes no sense just seals the no deal status of this proposal.

Don't get me wrong....I'd love to add Al Jefferson to play between Hibbert and Granger, but not in exchange for Granger.

Not unless we are completely desperate to get under the luxury tax for next year (i.e., the Cavs trade Z for Jamison and no one is offering expirings for Foster).

Otherwise, we like Jones, he's playing well, and he's relatively cheap right now. He's a solid role player for us, and he's paid like one. He's one of the reasons we'd be ok with moving Rush in a larger deal if we had to.

Jones' offensive athleticism (and foul drawing skills) have been a great surprise and, in my opinion, make him a good offseason acquisition. His straight-up man-to-man defense may not be "stopper" status, but he has the energy to make up for it and he hustles, doing little things like pulling chairs and flopping a bit.

As for the original subject, I remember there being a thread or a trade proposal earlier in the season, and we already stated that Granger is the superior commodity, and the superior player.

Dahntay Jones's contract is pretty friendly, so I don't see us moving him for cap space. We have a lot of other guys we'd probably try to move before him.

It's funny to me because if you were to see a trade proposal surrounding Al Jefferson and Carmelo Anthony you'd probably laugh right? Granger is just as good of a SF as Anthony is. If it's true this happened I would bet anything that Larry Bird took it as an insult.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

A Wolves fan brought this up earlier. The reaction was pretty much the same back then, and even with a healthy Al now, the response is similar.
