Shawne Williams: Waived by Nets and Arrested On Same Day

Post#1 » by Scoot McGroot » Sat Jan 16, 2010 1:04 am

Shawne Williams was waived by the Nets today (they just acquired him as filler in the Najera for Humphries deal from Dallas the other day).

Also today, he was arrested on felony drug charges in Memphis.

From Jeff Rabjohns at the IndyStar.com
Williams was indicted Tuesday on eight charges related to intent to manufacture, deliver or sell a controlled substance and conspiracy to manufacture, deliver or sell a controlled substance, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Williams, who turned himself in, is one of 24 people arrested in what the paper called “Operation: Lockdown” by Memphis Police.

Wow, whoda thunk it? He seemed like he was so mature and law-abiding.

Yeah and we could have had Rajon Rondo!

But this is what you call a bad day for Shawne! What the hell is wrong with these guys!

Yahoo basketball columnist Adrian Wojnarowski said the Nets found out about his pending legal issues on Thursday night and that's why they cut him. They knew it was coming. He said they were considering holding onto him and waiting til he gets a felony, and hope they can void his contract, but knew it would be slim anyways, so they just gave him a modest buy out. The guy is a waste of space. But, i can't say i am surprised. Nobody should be. lol

Hindsight is 20/20, but man we have made a lot of bad draft picks when we could have had some studs. I made a post about it awhile back.

I don't think Rondo would have had success on our teams. He was the backup to Delonte West prior to the trade for Allen and Garnett, and Boston tried to get someone else to play PG. They failed to get anyone and it was Rondo's job. Playing with those stars quickly made him better but he's had his problems in Boston over the years with Doc Rivers. If he played on a bad team, i don't think they could slide the problems under a rug as easy because it's harder to hide stuff when you're losing then opposed to when you're winning.

This guy is clearly a waste of talent, and it's a shame. Some people just never figure it out.

Not a Pacer, so not our problem.

Another bad move by Bird, but atleast he traded him after his continual problems with the law.

That's pretty good to say for once, huh?

But yeah, those 2 2nd rounders we got for him look genius right about now. Picking Williams at the time seemed like an alright deal, hindsight, not so great. But trading him was a good deal at the time and a great deal in hindsight.

I wanted Rondo or Marcus Williams he wouldn't have been much better but I'm still sure Rondo was the right pick for any team. Maybe he would have been better than Tinsley.

Since Shawne ended up being AJ Price, I'm happy. Still another 2nd to go also...

He was trying to distribute "drank" as it's commonly referred to. It's a pretty prevalent drug in the south and Memphis (where Williams is from). Some of you may remember the song by Three 6 Mafia & Project Pat called "Sippin on Some Sizzurp". That's what Shawn(with an)E was trying to concoct and distribute.

Oh yeah. I heard an interview with some rappers talking bout that. It's like a mixture of nyquil and alchohol or some crap.

Any kind of cough syrup, usually promethazine-codeine, and sometimes some jolly rancher bits. Lil' Wayne (ew....) drinks it every day. He doesn't have a cough.
