Oh my goodness, Ben Wallace with 21 boards on the night, surpassing his season high while adding 13 points. Another double-double for Ben, who’s constant control of the glass and the defensive end helped the Pistons control the game. At this point in the season, it’s hard not to put Ben at the top of the list for team MVP.

Charlie Villanueva with 13 points, 7 boards and 2 steals. I know he’s been hot and cold all season long, but I’m hoping the Pistons current play will help him out of whatever funk he was in.

Austin Day was great in his 14 minutes on the court. Daye finished with 12 points and assist and a rebound. He’s not afraid to take the big shot, and it always seems like he’s hitting them. Is he our new 3 point go to guy? Day was 2-for-2 from downtown.

Rip Hamilton led all scorers with 32 points, 10 assists, 3 steals and 3 boards. If Detroit ever needed a double-double from Rip it was last night. Rip, stepped up and helped control the flow of the game with Rodney feeling far from 100%.

It may have been upsetting to watch Detroit let their lead slip away in the fourth, but this time they didn’t fold when their back where against the wall. Had they not have broken their losing streak before this game, their spirit may not have willed them to fight for this one.

Detroit had the ball for the last shot in regulation, but couldn’t convert on a Rip Hamilton jumper. Nothing to knock Rip’s fantastic night, but he took the ball up for the last shot and fell short. That’s where we miss Chauncey most of all. I wanted the ball in Rip’s hand, but not that way. Coming off a screen and getting the ball for the last shot is where Rip is money.

Video in the link above^.With Rodney not feeling well and not having a great game, it was most likely that we would have seen more of Chucky Atkins down the stretch, but Atkins fouled out and back came a hurt and very tired looking Rodney Stuckey. I don’t know what got into Stuck, but he put his team on his back in OT converting two three point plays, helping Detroit secure the win. Check out Rodney’s fire.

Jazz sign Sundiata Gaines to second 10-day contract
Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor announced today that the Jazz has signed rookie guard Sundiata Gaines to a second 10-day contract.
Gaines (6-1, 185, Georgia) signed his first 10-day contract with the Jazz on Jan. 5 and has appeared in all five Jazz games since, averaging 4.2 points and 1.4 assists in 9.3 minutes per game. The Jazz is 4-1 since signing Gaines, who hit a game-winning three-pointer as time expired to beat Cleveland, 97-96, on Thursday night. The former University of Georgia Bulldog also recorded a career-high nine points vs. the Cavaliers. Gaines reached career-highs in minutes (21) and assists (five) in his NBA debut vs. Memphis on Jan. 6. Gaines was the fourth D-League Call-Up to the NBA this season, as well as the fourth D-League Call-Up in Jazz history, joining Rusty LaRue (2000-01), Mikki Moore (2003-04) and Louis Amundson (2006-07).
The Jamaica, N.Y., native had averages of 23.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.9 assists in 14 games with the D-League’s Idaho Stampede prior to being signed by the Jazz. Gaines was selected by the Stampede in the first round (15th overall pick) of the 2009 NBA D-League Draft after spending the 2008-09 campaign in Italy with NGC Cantu. The former Southeastern Conference Tournament MVP was not selected in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Nets waive Shawne Williams
The New Jersey Nets have requested waivers on forward Shawne Williams, Nets President Rod Thorn announced today.
Williams was acquired on January 11 via trade from Dallas along with Kris Humphris in exchange for Eduardo Najera. Currently in his fourth NBA season, Williams has career averages of 5.2 ppg and 2.4 rpg in 126 games with Indiana and Dallas. The former first round draft pick (17th overall) of the Pacers in 2006 has not played in a game this season.

Blazers' Roy misses game
Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy did not play against the Orlando Magic because of a sore right hamstring.
Roy came out during the third quarter of the Blazers' 120-108 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night. He had an MRI Thursday morning which confirmed the strain.

New York Knicks @ Detroit Pistons: Thankfully for John Keuster and company the Detroit Pistons managed to end their losing streak at 13 and have won back-to-back games. The New York Knicks are an ideal team to play while trying to rebuild your confidence, but they are tough to beat on some nights and have been playing .500 basketball over their last 10. Rip Hamilton had 32 points and 10 assists last outing and will need to keep his play at a high-level if the Pistons are going to get on any kind of roll.

Going For Three! Knicks @ Detroit Game Thread
New York Knicks at Detroit Pistons, Jan 16, 2010 6:30 PM CST
Game tips at 7:30 pm ET
Detroit Pistons: 13-25 (9-9 home, -5.0 margin)
New York Knicks: 16-23 (7-12 road, -1.4 margin)
Oppo Research
The last time these two teams met, on December 29th, the Knicks put the beat down on the Pistons in Rip Hamilton's second game back in the lineup. But that was then, and this is now. Everything has changed. For a Mike D'Antoni team, this Knicks squad isn't quite so quick up and down the court. Part of the reason for that is David Lee, who is leading the team in points and rebounds. The Knicks have finally started incorporating their best player in the offense, which makes some sense. As for the rest of the squad, the shooting just isn't there. The Knicks are shooting a modest 34% from three point range, though they take 27 attempts per game. One exception is Danilo Gallinari, who has blossomed this year as a prototypical stretch four. Like the Hornets, the Knicks are forced to give minutes to some pretty poor players. Chris Duhon and Jared Jeffries feature prominently in the rotation. D'Antoni's hate/hate relationship with Nate Robinson has forced him to explore a very thing bench, which more than offsets suprising years from Lee and Al Harrington.
Pistons Retro Moment
Rip Hamilton once took it to the Knicks to the tune of 51 points. Alas, it was a in a triple-overtime loss.
Keys for Detroit
Keep Lee quiet -Forcing the Knicks to become a three point shooting team is a good a way as any to beat them. If Lee gets 30 and 15, the Knicks win.
All Daye - He's not going to show up on the scouting report, and he has been very effective over the last few games. It is time to start giving him minutes to see what he can do.
Get Rip going - It's been three years since he scored 51, but the Knicks still won't have an answer for him. If Detroit is going to rattle off some wins to end the month, they'll need big contributions from their healthies guard not named Chucky.
Question of the Game
Does Detroit have anything left in the tank after an exhausting overtime win against the Hornets.

Two in a ROW! Pistons win in OT!
It looked like Rodney Stuckey’s night was done. Not liking Stuckey’s body language as the guard labored with a sore knee against the Hornets, Pistons coach John Kuester turned to Jonas Jerebko of all people when backup point guard Chucky Atkins fouled out in the fourth quarter. Kuester didn’t have much choice with other point guard options Ben Gordon, Will Bynum and Tayshaun Prince on the bench nursing injuries. Stuckey asked to go back in and the struggles continued through regulation as the game was tied at 96 going into overtime.
But Stuckey rebounded to score eight points in the extra session of the Pistons’ 110-104 overtime victory. And while folks still question whether the third-year pro from Eastern Washington will ever be a true point guard, there is no questioning his physical toughness. The Pistons (13-25) were nursing a two-point lead with 1:20 left when Stuckey was able to nail a jumper while drawing a foul from the Hornets’ Marcus Thornton. Stuckey responded by letting out a scream as he walked toward the free-throw line. “I just told him: ‘Keep digging, keep digging,’ “ Pistons guard Richard Hamilton said. “I don’t care how many shots you miss as long as you are being aggressive, especially when we are in the penalty.” “Just try to run somebody over and get to the free-throw line. He did an excellent job of that at the end of the game.”
Stuckey later drew the sixth foul on Hornets superstar Chris Paul. But there were other heroes for the Pistons, who now have a modest two-game winning streak. Ben Wallace put up a monster 13-point, 21-rebound, five-assist, two-block night and Hamilton had 32 points – his first 30-point night of the season. David West had 25 points for the Hornets (20-18).
