I think 1 Million is a Joke.....

it's the notion, not the amount that should matter at least they are giving something. whether the amount is right or wrong, is not up to one of us to decide.

Ah, the voice of reason...

Gotta agree with this. Shameful of them if that's all they give. But at the end of the day 1 million is better than nothing.

i thought the Chinese donation was disgusting considering how wealthy they are. That has to rank them high among the ranks of all-time cheapest bastards...

I guess it cost them too much to put on their propaganda olympics to show how great they are---and to keep their own people subjugated in what is, despite its prosperity, still essentially a totalitarian police state to give more...

If you ever go to china you will realize how poor the people are actually are over there, just to clarify I believe they donated over 5million total which is not really that much, but you have to consider that is a lot consider chinese people don't really donate to charity. I worked for the Clinton foundation and I know that they had people over there helping Hati before the earthquake hit.

China has donated $4.5 million worth of humanitarian aid, not including the $1 million that China's Red Cross Society has pledged and whatever else business owners/citizens have donated that we don't know about.

They were also one of the first ones to have search/rescue teams on the ground, I believe.

That doesn't compare to what we've given, but it isn't as bad as some of you are making it sound either. The people in China are very poor compared to us, and I doubt the Haiti disaster is getting as much publicity on government run television as it is here.

Its kinda funny because if you look at the total donations China actually is on the top when it comes to donations to Hati.

Both Japan and Taiwan only gave $500k, and Singapore gave $50k.

I read somewhere that the Chinese rescue workers were one of the first in arrive in Haiti.

I do agree that they probably could have donated a little more, but the first couple days after a disaster like this, search and rescue should be top priority, and China should be commended for their quick response.

Half the league lost money last year and attendance is down this year. I don't know where this mythical money the NBA is not donating is coming from. But then again, its typical fan thinking that money flows like milk and honey for sports teams and that they have more money than they know what to do with when that really isn't the case.

FWIW....China was all over the relief in Haiti because Haiti is one of a handful of countries that has close ties with Taiwan. China wants to break those ties. The Chinese government even took time to choreograph an intricate departure ceremony for their rescue workers to broadcast on government run TV.

Not saying some of it isn't in good faith.....but China's response was heavily politically driven.

I think there is a place for being graceful when it comes do donations. I think it's poor form to critique charity.

Just be thankful.

I wish they had given more, seeing as if every NBA player chipped in even like a percent of their salary they could really make an impact, but $1 mill is better than nothing.

Damn Stern can't do no right, even he gets bitch at trying to do good things. Can't believe some of you people are bitching at how little the NBA donated. If anything you should go bitch at the NFL, they are the one ranking in $$$ yearly.

Do you have a reliable source for this? I've heard it's not actually true, and there is no use sending things that aren't going anywhere.

The NBA where caring happens!

I can't criticize them. The important thing is that they donated and we can't complaint about how a company spends their money. The slight problem I have with the NBA is that they spend more $ advertising on how they help the community than helping the community itself.

The real question here is,

Did you donate?

Nothing else matter if u criticize

The OP has a point. Including a house and all the basic necessities, you don't need more than 1 million dollars to live. So one has to ask, what the heck do they(the athletes) need the rest of the money for?

Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie put up $1 million themselves. I'm glad some athletes like Alonzo are really doing their part but come on....
